In an attempt to promote more comics on The Comix Zone here on the site, I’m going to tell you about a new limited series hitting the shelves this summer. Earth’s Mightiest heroes, The Avengers, are about to have their hands full when they must take on an army of Xenomorphs! That’s right fanboys and girls. It’s Iron Man, Captain America and crew going up against Aliens! I’ll pause here for dramatic effect…
OK, moving on. The series is titles AVA: Avengers vs Aliens (catchy, isn’t it?) and you all knew this was coming after Disney bought 20th century Fox studios to go along with Marvel. We’ve already had a little tease of the crossover goodness between the two companies when Wolverine took on The Predator which was a hit so now, we have even more superheroes unleashing against this ominous and iconic sci-fi/horror threat. Scroll below to see the rad cover art for the first issue below!

The team behind this collaboration is a literal all-star team with Jonathan Hickman returning to The Avengers brand and he’s bringing his Secret Wars counterpart with him in Esad Ribić who will be handling the art for the inside as well as the covers. The series is a special 4 issue event, and it will feature a massive smackdown between the Aliens and earth’s strongest set in a future era set years after this current run of Marvel series and we will see embittered and older versions of our favorite heroes. It is said that they will be “older and grittier” then the versions we are used to seeing now but maybe a little more attitude is exactly what they’ll be needing to conquer this enormous threat.
Superman and Batman have tackled the Xenomorphs in the past over at DC and now it’s marvel’s turn as they will be fighting the threat that will be known to them as the Brood. These aliens are similar to the ones we know in the movie world and interestingly enough, they have taken on the X-men and have even united with them Hmmmmmm…most interesting.
“Probably one of the coolest things about the project is how we’ve found really fun ways to ‘Avengerize’ Aliens and ‘alien-up’ Avengers,” writer Jonathan Hickman told Entertainment Weekly, when the trade first revealed the series. “I think fans will be surprised at how elegantly some of those things fit together. It really turned out to be a chocolate-and-peanut-butter situation.”
Hickman is no stranger to The Avengers, having penned New Avengers between 2013 and 2015. His work eventually led up to the smash success 2015’s Secret Wars which changed the landscape of the Marvel Multiverse. Esad Ribić was, of course, along for the ride on that one doing the spectacular artwork.
Needless to say, that I am a huge nerd for all things Alien and Avengers so I will be picking this up when it launches. My money is on The Avengers, but you just never know. Personally, I’m jacked up to witness Captain America throwing his shield into aliens and decapitating a horde while Iron Man blasts away with his hand cannons. It’s a great time to be a comic book geek.
AVA: Aliens Vs. Avengers #1 will hit comic book shelves on July 24, to pump fans up and tie in with the new Alien: Romulus flick hitting in August.
