Well, comic book fandom will finally have some cause for a slight celebration as it’s being reported that the upcoming Disney+ MCU series Daredevil: Born Again has finally commenced filming after a lengthy hiatus due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. During the shutdown, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige grew displeased with the direction the show was going and ordered a massive creative overhaul that led to firings and more. Feige had not been happy with the fact that the new Daredevil series was looking more like a Law and Order procedural than a Marvel superhero series so he brought in fresh perspective to shake things up. After all, when the boss isn’t happy, heads will roll.

Dario Scardapane, who is no stranger to working on Marvel shows having been a part of Netflix’s the Punisher was brought in to fix things, Scardapane has an impressive list of series he has worked which also includes Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. In addition, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who served as directors on multiple MCU projects like Moon Knight and Loki season 2 were also hired to helm the remaining episodes that were left in the new season.
When it isn’t broke, don’t fix it and that’s why Philip Silvera, who worked on the original Netflix Daredevil series as the stunt and fight coordinator, has been brought on as well to act as the new stunt coordinator and second unit director. The original Netflix series was noteworthy for its brutal and well laid out fight sequences which included several impressive oner scenes that rivaled anything that is seen in cinema.

Fans will also be happy to know that rumors that the Netflix series co-stars. Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson are also back and playing their characters of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson respectively. The two weren’t initially part of Born Again but this is a slam dunk on Feige’s part as the two had awesome chemistry with star Charlie Cox who returns to play Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil. Vincent D’Onofrio, who owned the role of Wilson Fisk AKA The Kingpin ever since the first season of the Netflix series is back also, so this is shaping up to be an MCU homerun. D’Onofrio can also be seen on the newly released MCU series Echo that debuted a few weeks back.
Reports are also saying that the original episode order of 18 has been scaled down also so it will essentially have the 13 episodes that the Netflix seasons did. The aforementioned Echo series had a finale which is said to potentially set up the events of Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox also had a cameo in that series in one scene that contained a stellar fight sequence.
With all the retooling, it looks like the new show will hopefully be worthy of the previous Netflix seasons and with Cox’s return being highly anticipated after the long wait, this certainly bodes well for fanboys and girls everywhere. Unfortunately, we have a long wait to see the finished product so here’s hoping it was all for the better.
