Say what you will about wrestler turned Hollywood action and comedy star John Cena but I like what he’s been doing as of late. I felt that it was his charisma and chemistry with Jackie Chan in the long delayed action film Hidden Strike that saved it for me so I’m intrigued to see what he does next, especially as he’s working with Taken helmer Pierre Morel.
The new pic is called Freelance and this one has been kicking around for a few years so it’s finally designated for a theatrical release this October. Cena plays and ex-special forces soldier turned desk jockey who accepts the wrong gig in order to put some excitement back into his life. Chaos and comedy abound as the result is one bad situation after another. Check out the newly released art work and trailer below!

Official Synopsis: Ex-special forces operative Mason Pettis (Cena) is stuck in a dead-end desk job when he reluctantly takes on a freelance gig to provide private security for washed-up journalist Claire Wellington as she interviews the ruthless—but impeccably dressed—dictator, Juan Venegas. When a military coup breaks out just as she’s about to get the scoop of a lifetime, the unlikely trio must figure out how to survive the jungle AND each other in order to make it out alive!
Cena is joined in the film by Alison Brie as Claire Wellington and Juan Pablo Raba as Juan Venegas. Genre favorite Christian Slater stars as well.
I know this will get bashed even before it comes out but I’m going to definitely see if it passes inspection for me. Cena looks great and it looks funny and exhilarating at the same time so I’m willing to oversee the negatives. Plus it’s R rated do hopefully we’ll get some good old fashioned adult humor and violence. We shall see.
Freelance hits theaters on October 6th!
