Zack Snyder keeps teasing us with footage and images from his epic 2-part Sci-Fi Action saga Rebel Moon which takes its cues from legendary movies like Star Wars and The Seven Samurai. There’s no denying that this is ambitious and it was recently announced that Netflix allowed Snyder to break the movie into two parts so he could properly tell his version.
Now, we have some new Intel as Snyder has unveiled the titles for each chapter along with a new release date for the 2nd installment. The first movie has now been dubbed Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire, while the second film will be officially known as Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver.
To go along with the reveal, Snyder also announced that the 2nd part will hit Netflix sometime in April 2024 which will roughly be around 4 months after the first one which hits on December 22nd of this year. Fans should be happy as the 2-part epic is expected to be R rated with some heavy doses of violence.
The official plot reads: “The story is set in motion when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate, the colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.”
Rebel Moon stars an eclectic, international cast including stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam and the one and only icon Anthony Hopkins as the voice of ‘Jimmy’. Additional cast members include Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, E. Duffy, Jena Malone, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi, Corey Stoll.
Snyder unleashed a brand new BTS video back in June which showcases ample amounts of footage of the movie which will be separated into two films as Snyder bargained with Netflix so he could film his entire 174 page script. Netflix wanted it two hours so Snyder compromised and now there will be two installments. Check out the out of this world action and drama in the video below!
Snyder also took to social media to announce that the action drenched sci-fi film will debut in a special appearance at a video game event in Germany called Gamescom. Snyder put a picture of him editing the movie and mentioned that a new teaser trailer will in fact debut tomorrow at the event. The caption reads, “Adding the final touches. The @RebelMoonteaser trailer will make its global debut live @Gamescom. See you there on Tuesday, August 22. #RebelMoon.”
Snyder might not be doing the DCU but this universe looks rad and will definitely fill the void for his legions of fans. Plus it’s an original concept that takes its cues from some of the best genre films ever made.
Rebel Moon has been a passion project for Snyder for years and it is sad that he won’t get to complete his DCEU masterpiece but this one is way up top on my to watch list. All I know is, this is the sci-fi flick that should have the tag line, “it’s high noon at the edge of the universe.”
