A big thank you goes out to Asian Film Fans and our resident Asian Film Expert The Arty Dans as he has given us a new trailer for an upcoming Chinese actioner helmed by prolific filmmaker Herman Yau. Titled Raid on the Lethal Zone, the movie tells the real life story of a group of elite soldiers who must battle not only man but nature as well as they pursue human traffickers. Yau, who is best known for directing such noteworthy films as Shockwave 1 and 2 as well as the recently released Death Notice directs a pretty unknown cast (which isn’t a bad thing) including Hao (Oho) Ou, Yao Huang and Jason Gu. I usually don’t mind an unknown cast if they can deliver and they have many times in my book.
Chinese web movies are all the rage nowadays as they deliver high octane action and searing drama on a budget. Sometimes the results are pretty lackluster but evert once in a while, an action packed web movie rises to the top to entertain genre fans. Raid on the Lethal Zone looks like it could be one of the positive results. We shall see.

Herman Yau has a busy 2023 coming up with the release of this straight-to-web thriller coming in June! Check out the new subtitled trailer.
A web-movie with the famous Hong Kong director Herman Yau at the helm, this movie is set towards the end of last century, in the late 1990s, on China’s south west border.
Based on a real story, we follow a special combat team called “8077” who must fight through floods and the dangers of nature as they take on a violent gang of drug traffickers
Hong Kong movie fans should know Herman quite well, a 25 year movie directing veteran responsible for gory Cat 3 movies like Ebola Syndrome (1996) and The Untold Story (1993), the first 6 movies in the Troublesome Night (1997+) horror series, as well as more recent hits such as Shockwave 1 and 2 (2017 – 2020) and the recently released Death Notice (2022)
The cast, however, is very B-grade with no familiar faces here
Hao (Oho) Ou leads the way, seen previously in The Eight Hundred (2020), The Captain (2019) and Chinese Doctors (2021)
Jason Gu stars alongside him, from the 2022 action movie Formed Police Unit, and 2019 disaster film The Bravest
With Yao Huang as the female lead, seen recently as the lead in the romantic film The Italian Recipe (2022) and Jackson Yee’s Nice View (2022), as well as acclaimed movie The Crossing (2018)- The Arty Dans
This one hits this month so I’ll be on the lookout for it to view and submit my personal opinion on it. The trailer looks all kinds of promising with ample amounts of action and tension so it looks like it should move briskly from beginning to end.
