OPERATION: KICKBOXER- A New Series Based on the Hit Martial Arts Franchise in Development

Well here’s a switch and I don’t know what it means for the delayed third movie in the Kickboxer reboot franchise, but reports coming out this weekend says that a new Kickboxer series is officially in development. What’s more interesting is that the team behind the reboot series is a part of it including Director Dimitri Logothetis along with executive producer Todd Garner (Mortal Kombat).

The series is called Operation: Kickboxer and it will center on a new character named Michael Sloan who is the youngest of the Sloan brothers. Sloan will get into all kinds of hand fights hand combat as he goes undercover to win back his freedom.

Operation: Kickboxer will be a martial arts-driven espionage series which finds the youngest Sloane brother, Michael, thrust into the world of international geopolitical intrigue. In order to earn his freedom, Sloane must go undercover as an MMA contender, using his clout to gain access to targets around the world, while remaining in contention for the champion title belt.
Per Deadline

Logothetis helmed the first two Kickboxer films titled Kickboxer Vengeance and Kickboxer Retaliation respectively. Martial Arts champ and veteran stunt pro Alain Moussi (The upcoming King of Killers) played David Sloan in both films. Iconic martial arts action star Jean-Claude Van Damme played the role in the classic original.

A third film in the Kickboxer series titled Kickboxer: Armageddon was in the works but it was delayed when Logothetis and Moussi made Jiu-Jitsu. Now with news of this potential spin-off series, there is no word at the present on the fate of the film. I have reported extensively on the planned third installment extensively over the last few years and even spoke to Moussi about it when we talked in our exclusive interview. You can check out the articles down below.

No casting decisions have been made at the time of this writing and we don’t know if Moussi will play a role in the series. Moussi does have the new actioner King of Killers which also stars Frank Grillo waiting in the pipeline and that movie is hoping to spurn a franchise as well as a prequel series starring Moussi has been officially greenlit.

It’s been a long while since we have had a killer martial arts series to watch. There is HBOMAX’s Warrior but other than that, it’s pretty dry on television for the subgenre. Operation: Kickboxer does sound intriguing and if they can get JCVD to get involved then it would definitely sell it to the fan base that this is targeted for. Van Damme did play a supporting role in the reboot movies as Durand, the blind trainer to Moussi’s Kurt Sloan.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more details to follow as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!

In the meantime, check out both the finale to the original Kickboxer along with the newer version’s sequel below! If the fight action in the series is anything like what we’ve gotten in the past from the franchise, then I’m in.

  1. The reboot films have been anything but a hit. Quite the opposite in fact.

How come that Undisputed series didn’t manage to be picked up, but now we’re getting something nobody is really asking for. Unbelievable!
