The sequel to one of the biggest action hits of 2020 is almost here and with it Chris Hemsworth returns as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake in Extraction 2! Netflix has issued a special behind the scenes first look video at the highly anticipated follow up which will hopefully surpass the first one on terms of ammo spent and stuntmen put through the ringer. Official Synopsis:

Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in EXTRACTION 2, the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster action film EXTRACTION. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

Hargrave and Hemsworth have promised a bigger and badder sequel and also say that the 12 minute oner sequence from the first film is nothing to what they have in store for Rake’s second mission.

The BTS delivers and will certainly wet appetites for the extreme action that is sorely lacking in action cinema these days. Including Daniel Bernhardt is a big score in my book and when I talked to him last year, he teased big things for the role he had.

Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO producing and Joe Russo writing. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first film, with Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili also co-starring.

This is a sequel to the first film that was based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando León González. EXTRACTION 2 is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Newall and Sam Hargrave, with Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Benjamin Grayson, Steven Scavelli, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely as executive producers.

Extraction was my number one pick for 2020 but of course that was a bad year as COVID was running rampant for most of the year. I’m not taking anything away from it but that year would have shaped up differently if everything was normal. Granted if Top Gun Maverick had come out like it was supposed too, then that probably would have dethroned the Chris Hemsworth vehicle. It still would have hit the top three for sure as it had some of the best set pieces in the genre. We’ll see if number 2 can reach loftier heights next year.

The newly released video definitely peeks my curiosity even more as it looks more intense and action drenched then the first one. Let’s be honest, all it has to do is explode and spend mass amounts of ammunition along with insane stunt work and I’ll be satisfied.

What really has me jazzed is the intricate hand to hand sequences and CQB action in the video. That’s my bread and butter as I’m a trained martial artist. There’s nothing like some correctly executed Gun Fu especially in a military action themed film.

Extraction 2 is set to hit Netflix in 2023 so lock and load and keep it right here action fanatics!!!
