Wesley Snipes is diving into the world of graphic novels for his latest endeavor as Deadline is bringing word that the Blade star is readying a new title called The Exiled. The dystopian set action-thriller comes from a story from Snipes and Adam Lawson through his Maandi House Studios who have partnered with Lawson’s Gifted Rebels company as well as PCB Entertainment and you can check out some teaser key art of the upcoming book below.

Official Synopsis: The comic will follow Detective Niles “Roach” Washington as he pursues a serial killer in the aftermath of a deadly gas attack. As the killer rips the spines from his victims, using tools over 5,000 years old, the world outcasts Roach for his theories. But his instincts keep pushing him forward. With enemies on all sides, and within, he wades into the darkness to find the killer and uncovers Earth’s darkest secret.
Lawson has adapted the comic book script from a story he developed with Snipes along with PCB Entertainment President Keith Arem. According to the article, Gabriel “Eskivo” Santos, best known for Knightwatch, will be doing the artwork for the book with Valentina Bianconi doing the colors.
One distinct feature of this particular graphic novel is that there will be codes hidden throughout the comic. These codes will offer access to unique digital collectibles and upcoming events.
A Kickstarter campaign is set to launch on June 21st which will, of course, offer exclusives to those who back there project. One item that you can get will be a special collector’s edition 140 page graphic novel and a special Manga sized “Go Version” with an additional story that will take place on the universe of Exiled.
One highlight of the campaign will be a special 120mm collectible figure of Detective Washington in an action pose. This limited edition figure will be available to day one backers only.
“Comics let you explore big worlds. Since Blade, I have been attracted to origin stories and developing characters,” said Snipes in the article. “Now, I get to build “Roach” as a character from the ground up and I dig that.”
Lawson added:
“This campaign will be for the backers who want to come on the journey with us. They will get their books first and in a format no one else ever will.”
This isn’t Snipes first foray into comics as the actor released the 2010 comic After Dark along with filmmaker Antone Fuqua. Snipes also co-authored the fantasy novel Talon of God as well.
From the above artwork, the character of Detective Niles “Roach” Washington is definitely tailored after Snipes. Plus there’s a clear resemblance to Blade as well which makes sense as Snipes helped create the property.
