First of all, my sincere apologies on the tardiness of this review as the Kickstarter campaign for the new retro action comic book Collision Force ends today but hopefully this article will push it over the edge in terms of crowd funding gusto. This ambitious comic book franchise is looking to make a bullet riddled strike on the indie market and hopefully there is enough support to continue this legacy as it is the fever dream of old school, over the top action filled with testosterone levels of gratuitous violence to be had. Think a hard R rated G.I. Joe if the Joes were decommissioned only to be brought back as a new threat emerges and this eclectic band of tier one operators are the only answer to save the world and to do it, they must carve a gloriously violent path of anti-hero death and destruction ranging from the tried-and-true automatic weapons to pretty much anything a construction worker would use.
Now, it’s important to remember that I am essentially a lifelong comic book fanboy and I am such a huge nerd when it comes to the art and print of stories featuring superheroes like Captain America and Batman as well as down to earth gritty anti- heroes like The Punisher. I’m such a gigantic fan that I love both Marvel and DC (yes it can be done) as well as indie books like Spawn and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when they first appeared in black and white and were anything but family friendly. I used to have the largest collection imaginable and recently in the last few years, I have restarted my love for this pop culture icon.
Comic books were such a massive part of my childhood, and when G.I. Joe hit the shelves all the way back in 1982, I was a fan for life of tactical comic book action. I was a boy who loved his superheroes, but something changed that faithful day when I stepped into my local comic bookstore called Capp’s Comics (which sadly is no longer around) and I began my eternal and undying love for characters like Duke, Scarlett, Roadblock, Rock N Roll, and my all-time favorites Snake Eyes and his Arashikage brother Storm Shadow. To put it simply, superheroes were great, but G.I. Joe was all kinds of rad induced awesome.
When the fellows behind Collision Force reached out to me with the sample of their first issue, I was immediately elated as this was right in my wheelhouse and even though G.I. Joe went dark from time to time; this was a passionately and gloriously blood-soaked ode to all things retro action.
Now that my ultra-long epilogue is over, let’s get into the first issue of Collision Force as this would essentially be a comic book that John J. Rambo and Col. John Matrix would read and have on their bookshelves. If they had bookshelves but I digress.
Before the story even starts, the book starts off fittingly enough with a roll call page of all the ultimate bad asses that make up the black ops unit of Collision Force. It’s like the beginning of MegaForce when the narrator describes the unit and why they are so…well…ultimate. We are officially introduced to the likes of Chi Diakese, Prescott Bowman, Tamara Hawk and the main man in charge himself Lars Bowman. Thet even have their own bloody wolf that looks like Timber on steroids! I mean just the names themselves screams out Blockbuster DTV carnage and mayhem of the upmost levels. For a full rundown of all the members see exhibit A below!

Just to make sure that this comic is true to the genre that it is celebrating, the storyline starts off with a mission gone awry and even though it was technically “mission success,” the job didn’t go off as planned. It is because of this fiasco that the evil powers that be now know that Collision Force is very much around and is still tactically operational and there are a lot of haters of this group of merry mercs that would like to see all of them six feet under. There is a target on all their backs and to wipe it out, all of the members will have to use what expertise they are best known for and arm up with the finest in deadly firepower to curl the threats to the free world and remind everyone why they are…COLLISION FORCE!
The plot alone just oozes 90’s military actioner with ample doses of blood dripping chaos that a horror movie would love to have. I won’t spoil any of it for you because I want you to support this so I’ll just say that the violence on this book would make Art the Clown from the Terrifier trilogy extremely proud. It’s excessive ridiculousness in the best way possible and this book and the men who created iit know who their target audience is.
After the initial origin story and what has happened, the creators tease us with what is in store for future issues that will hopefully get made. We are also treated to a little bit of Collision Force’s comeback and this is a comic that will leave even the most hardcore fan wanting more.
The artwork for Collision Force is a true masterpiece in nostalgic color and form with each panel erupting off the page with enough bad assery, fuse lit testosterone and savage, heroic bravado to fill two issues of any other much celebrated books and the artistry is what really makes this a must own. if the initial ingredients weren’t enough.
If you pledge now, there is a whole treasure trove of perks that you can get from digital and physical copies of the books which includes two bone snapping covers which you can see below!

There are also T-Shirts, bookmarks and more including a tier where you can get killed off in a future issue of Collision Force to becoming the President of the free world. I mean, seriously, how kick ass would it be to see yourself die in true comic book form? That was a rhetorical question by the way.
Now it’s time to introduce the elite team of operatives who have brought all of this glorious retro action excess to life. Take a bow gentleman!

This is the action comic we have been waiting for and hopefully we will get to read issue after issue after issue for years to come. Collision Force! When all others fail…they reload!
Don’t delay! The campaign ends tonight so head on over to the
Official Kickstarter Page and put in your pledge now!

After vanishing for a decade, the elite anti-terrorist team of COLLISION FORCE reunites to ruthlessly vanquish new threats to the United States.
COLLISION FORCE, a team of elite soldiers formed in the aftermath of 9/11, ferreted out and eliminated any terrorist threats to the United States without hesitation or mercy. Lars Bowman led Collision Force with unrelenting patriotism, love for his teammates, and a seething hatred for any threats to American freedom. The team gained a legendary reputation through their resolute commitment to protecting America by any means necessary.
The team disbanded after a catastrophic early 2010s mission in Morocco that forced its members to go underground. Lars and his confidant, Chi Diakese, continued to battle against terror in the shadows, unbeknownst to the rest of the team.
NOW: A dangerous threat to freedom-loving U.S. citizens has emerged, and only one team, COLLISION FORCE, can confront it. Can the team hone its killing edge again in another era against the most dangerous enemy they’ve ever faced?
