There are certain memories one tends to hold onto and remember while countless other memories are forgotten. As a boy growing up in Mentor, Ohio, I became an avid fanboy probably when I was as young as 4. Maybe younger. Who knows. One of my fondest memories is back in 1982 when I rode my bicycle down the street to my local comic book shop (yes, I had one less than a mile from me, good times) and walked in to find what would be the greatest comic book ever. I was already a fan of the usual suspects. The Punisher. Batman. Spider-Man. Captain America. Superman. Wolverine. All were in my arsenal along with all the others that were around at the time, but it was in 1982 when Marvel Comics would unveil what would become my favorite IP ever. G.I. Joe. I was already a fan of the earlier creation which was the Barbie size action figures for boys that featured a rag tag group of adventurers but when Marvel introduced a whole new generation of Joes along with their arch nemesis Cobra, I was sold from the very minute I picked up issue number 1 off the stands on that faithful day.
What would follow would be a decades long love affair with the mythology of the military action themed comics, the subsequent toy line and the cartoon as I ate up everything Yo Joe and more. My favorite character has always been Snake-Eyes with Storm Shadow a close second for obvious reasons, but I love all the characters even the infamous ones. Remember when the Fridge became a Joe? Yeah, even him. Things died down a little in the 90’s but G.I. Joe was here to stay and would see itself reinvented multiple times with this super fan loving all of it. Hell, I even loved the CGI movies they put out as well as the live action films starting with Rise of Cobra. yes, I love them, and I’m exhausted defending my opinion on that topic so don’t bother trying to bring me down with negativity because it will just fall on deaf ears. Moving on.
Unfortunately, I was unable to keep my comic line and toys due to life and it is a sad reminder that sometimes life just sucks but I have always been a diehard fan and will always support anything Joe. I am currently reading the new line of G.I. Joe from Image and Skybound Entertainment along with the Energon Universe spin-offs and it’s like I’m a kid all over again. I plan to backtrack and read the newer versions of the comics that hit in the 2000’s but that will have to wait until I have more time, but I will get around to it. For now, I’m loving the new books and will do a special podcast on it in the near future.
Well, you can imagine how excited I was when Skybound announced that they were doing a special crowd funding campaign for a new set of compendium box sets that would recreate the entire original line of the Marvel Comics including spin-offs and stretch goals. The sets look spectacular, and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to partake in the line as I was on disability. Fortunately for me, I am working again so on this last day of the campaign, I was able to pledge to get the Snake-Eyes set that includes a whole bunch of goodies including stretch goals and more. If I had more money, I would have totally bought the Cobra books as well but I’m more than happy with what I was able to get. Check it out below!!!

I was actually going to do a post on this when it was first announced but I was unable to, and it really didn’t need my help as it was funded in like minutes. This is more of an opinion piece for it and to remind you that the campaign will end tomorrow. Better hurry. The stretch goals for this are what really make it sweet (if the compendium volumes weren’t enough) and they include what you see below!

From trading cards to special reprints of The Silent Issue and Yearbook #1, this is going to be a nice Christmas gift to myself as the set is due in December. I even know where I’m going to put the Joe and Cobra posters as well as the prints on my wall. I might start crying. I’m not sure. It’s been a hard year, and this is exactly what the doctor ordered is all I can say. The only issue I can see is that they aren’t coming out tomorrow. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to distract myself with the new line of comics while watching the cartoon series, films and more until I get my set. What a fine day that will be indeed.

When I receive my compendium set along with all the extra goodies it comes with, you can bet that I will do a special unboxing podcast to celebrate. time is almost up if you want to buy some history as the campaign has just 21 hours left and will end tomorrow Wednesday, June 26th. If you want to get yours then click the link below to check it out, select and back it. It’s worth it if you’re even half the fan that I am. I’m not gonna lie, I’m such a Joe superfan that I even love Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins starring Henry Golding. Once again, your argument is invalid on me.

It’s a great time to be a G.I. Joe fan as we are also getting the long-awaited live action G.I. joe/Transformers crossover event movie in the future starring Chris Hemsworth and probably a host of well-known actors and actresses. If done right (fingers crossed) I feel that this can be just as big as the MCU. Like I said, fingers on both hands crossed.
Until next time. Stay frosty and YO JOE!!!!
