This week brought the word that Alexander Nevsky is retiring to action cinema with his long awaited Savage Attack which will shoot next February but we’ve got some pretty kick ass BTS footage from the set of his latest western flick Assault on Rio Bravo. Nevsky brings the double barreled action in this clip he shared on Instagram and it looks old school killer. Check out Nevsky in action below taking down the bad guys in blaze of glory fashion!
We also have more info on Nevsky’s character and he’s tipped right from the history books. In Assault on Rio Bravo, Nevsky will be playing a real life colonel in the Russian Imperial Guards:
In Joe Cornet’s Western “Assault on Rio Bravo” I’m playing a real hero – Ivan Turchaninov. He was the colonel in the Russian Imperial Guards who moved to America in 1856, later became a Union army brigade general and the only Russian hero of American Civil War. He was better known in North America by his Anglicised name John Basil Turchin,” Nevsky said on social media,” stated Nevsky on social media.
Assault on Rio Bravo recently finished principal photography and it’s expected to hit sometime next year. A sequel has already been announced as well which bodes well for the film and its looking like the powers that be like what they see from this one.
Teaser key art dropped back in September which showcases Nevsky taking aim with a rifle as the rest of the cast including Matthias Hues, Anna Oris, Joe Cornet and Olivier Gruner are predominantly featured on the bottom. The poster even radiates a throwback western look to get fans in the mood for what’s about to come.

Featuring a great action cast including Nevsky, Gruner and Hues will assuredly promise some exhilarating action set pieces and Nevsky has been seen brandishing some immense fire power. Nevsky promises a thrilling film with elements of such action greats as Cobra and John Wick with a Spaghetti Western flair.
In a statement, Nevsky said: “It’s my first Western and I’m really excited about it! It will have a strong story and a crazy action scenes (think of classic “Spaghetti Western” meets “Cobra” and “JohnWick!”)
Joe Cornet also directed the movie and is expected to return to the helmer’s chair for the second one which is slated to go in front of the cameras soon. Nevsky is also producing once again via his Hollywood Storm production banner. Craig Hamman (Showdown in Manila), who wrote the first screenplay, is penning the script.
Cornet also starred in and directed the recent western The Promise which received 15 nominations at The Wild Bunch Film Festival including Best Picture and Best Director.
While we wait for more info to come on Assault on Rio Bravo and Savage Attack, check out the teaser trailer for the upcoming western which definitely channels some 90’s DTV vibes!
