Wrestling superstar John Cena is in demand in movies right now as the WWE superstar turned Hollywood superstar has been killing it in films like F9: The Fast Saga and The Suicide Squad. Cena is also starring in the highly anticipated Peacemaker HBOMAX series so his stock is on the rise.
Deadline is reporting that Cena may have found his next theatrical gig as he is in active negotiations to star in a new action-comedy from Taken director Pierre Morel titled Freelance. From the sound of the movie, this one is tailor made for the star.
Per Deadline: The project, which is budgeted in the $40 million range, follows a special forces operator (Cena) who decides to retire from the Army and start a family back in the states. After several years of mortgage payments, school drop-offs, backyard barbecues and trying to conform to life in suburbia, he decides to come out of retirement to take a gig providing security for a female journalist as she interviews a cruel dictator who may or may not have ordered the attack on him and his men. When a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, the three are forced to escape into the jungle where they must survive the elements, the military and one another.

Jacob Lentz of the Jimmy Kimmel Live show is making his feature writing debut with this one and additional casting is also in full effect right now for the movie that is due to start shooting in Columbia next year. Freelance will also be a hot commodity at next month’s American Film Market as action films like this are in demand.
Cena is also expected to appear in F10 as well as a sequel to Hulu’s hit comedy Vacation Friends so his plate is filling up quickly. You can definitely see him.
