He may be out new Captain America but Anthony Mackie has his next job lined up as well as Variety is reporting that the MCU actor has enlisted to star in a live action series based on the best selling video game series Twisted Metal. Mackie is certainly going to be busy with these two high profile gigs but something tells me he’s up to the challenge.

Per Variety: The new series, which was first announced as being in development in February, is described as an action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind the “Deadpool” films and “Zombieland.”

The show is about motor-mouthed outsider John Doe (Mackie) who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.

Michael Jonathan Smith will write and produce the series with Reese and Wernick serving as executive producers on the love action video game project which will be a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.

The very first game in the Twisted Metal franchise was launched way back in 1995. The main plot of the games has gamers driving suped up demolition cars in an over the top competition that was all chaos and anarchy. Destruction is the name of the game as drivers race not only to win but survive as well.
