When I first revamped my website over two years ago and made it a whole lot better, one of the first news posts I did was for a new TV series which would star Smallville’s Tom Welling and Doom Patrol’s Brendan Fraser. The show was called The Professionals and it sounded cool as hell. Unfortunately, as soon as I did that post, it was radio silent from there on out. I assumed that it was a victim of the pandemic but evidently, it’s been playing in foreign territories. Here is said article.
Well I bring good news today in that The Professionals lives and The CW has picked it up to run sometime in the future here on this side of the world. Also they dropped the “THE” and it’s just called Professionals now so there’s that. There’s even cool new key art which features Welling looking all bad ass and in action hero mode.

Professionals “follows Vincent Corbo (Welling), a top-tier security operative, who is paid to protect the interests of rich and powerful clients by any means necessary – legal or not. After a next-gen medical satellite explodes on launch, Corbo is hired by the rocket’s designer – billionaire futurist Peter Swann (Fraser) — who suspects sabotage. Complicating Corbo’s new gig is his former paramour and now Swann’s fiancée, medical visionary Dr. Grace Davila (Anaya), who is racing to help stave off a global catastrophe. As Corbo and his team of veteran security professionals investigate the rocket disaster, they expose a lethal conspiracy of Swann’s corporate rivals, corrupt government officials, and a shadowy crime syndicate — all working to destroy Swann and take control of his tech empire. Worse, Corbo must also contend with a rogue Europol agent (Ken Duken) who is hellbent on busting him for past sins.”

The series also stars Wonder Woman’s Elena Anaya as well as Saïd Taghmaoui (John Wick 3), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Wonder Woman), August Wittgenstein (The Crown), Stevel Marc (The Mauritanian), Tanya Van Graan (Raised by Wolves), and Nic Rasenti (Outlander).
Professionals was shot on location in South Africa and Ireland and is also a co-production of both territories.
I was a big Smallville fan and it will be interesting to see Welling take on this more traditional action oriented role. Going weapons free looks like it suits him. Fraser has seen a resurgence as of late with Doom Patrol and is always a welcome addition to any film or series. I’m intrigued although I wish it was going the streaming route instead of network TV. Fingers crossed.
There is no release set for the series at the time of this writing so keep it locked and loaded right here for more details coming soon!
