Yesterday was a welcome day for action fans as news finally broke that a new Expendables movie was indeed on the way. List in the shuffle, no disrespect intended I assure you, was the trailer for Jake Gyllenhaal and director Antoine Fuqua’s new Netflix thriller The Guilty which stars Jake as a 911 dispatcher out to uncover the truth about a call he receives.
The Guilty is an English language remake of a 2018 Danish film which had the same name. Gyllenhaal stars along with Ethan Hawke (First Reformed), Peter Sarsgaard (Shattered Glass), Riley Keough (Zola), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Dolemite Is My Name), Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora), and Bill Burr (The King of Staten Island).
Official Synopsis: The film takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger-but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.
Fuqua is one of my favorites and this one looks taut and compelling so I’ll be checking it out when it hits the streaming service on October 1st!
