MORTAL KOMBAT: New Promos for the April 16th Release Unleashes New Footage and Hard R Fight Action!

By: John M Jerva

If you’re like me, April 16th cannot come fast enough as that is the day the anticipated reboot of Mortal Kombat is finally unleashed in theaters and HBOMAX. It’s been a long time coming but with the release of the red band trailer a few weeks ago, genre fans got even more excited as we were treated to some insane hard R fight action coupled with a sneak peek look at some of the promised Fatalities in the movie.

Now we have more of an exclusive look as a series of promos have been unveiled which features new footage and action as well as a deeper look at all the iconic characters that will be featured in the film from first time film director Simon McQuoid. The new footage also cements the eternity led feud between Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) and we also get to see more of the cast which includes Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Mileena (Sisi Stringer), Kano (Josh Lawson), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang), Shang Tsung (Chin Han) and Raiden (Tadanobu Asano). There are even more surprises for fans if you look hard enough.

April 16th!

The Official Synopsis sees:

MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage — or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana — the immense power from within his soul — in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

A new banner poster was also released this week which certainly peeks interest for gamers and genre fans awaiting the brutal video game adaptation and you can see it below!
