Hot off the heels of its big trailer debut this summer at Comic Con@Home, it is being reported that RLJE Films has now acquired the dark superhero action-thriller Archenemy. The film is also set to debut at this year’s Beyond Fest so expect to see first look reviews soon after.
Joe Manganiello plays Max Fist, who claims he’s a hero from another dimension who has somehow landed on Earth and been stripped of his powers. In other superhero movies, that might be the start of a rousing and upbeat redemption arc. In the hands of the producers of the gonzo art horror film “Mandy,” it’s something else entirely.

Instead of treating him like a powerful champion, no one believes Max’s claims — except for a teenager named Hamster (Skylan Brooks, “The Darkest Minds”) and his sister Indigo (Zolee Griggs, “Adam Ruins Everything”). The siblings convince Max to help them take out a local drug gang, where Max’s abilities are put to a violent and harrowing test. Per Variety

Archenemy was helmed by Adam Egypt Mortimer who also penned the script and Manganiello and his brother Nick also produced the film via their 3:59 production banner.
“We’re excited to be back in business with SpectreVision after the incredibly successful releases of Mandy and Color Out of Space,” RLJE Films Chief Acquisitions Officer Mark Ward said in a statement. “With Joe Manganiello’s strong performance and Adam Egypt Mortimer’s innovative direction, we couldn’t have asked for a better dream team to showcase Archenemy at Beyond Fest and in theaters and various platforms in December.”
Archenemy is set to hit select cinemas and Digital/VOD on December 11th which is one day after my birthday no less so I know what I’ll be viewing for my special day. In the meantime, check out the trailer once again that dropped in July.
