Just a few days after actor Harry Golding took to Instagram to announce that filming had been completed on Snake-Eyes: GI Joe Origins, we now have official confirmation from director James Gunn that principal photography is a wrap on the highly anticipated soft reboot sequel Suicide Squad 2 as the filmmaker took to Instagram as well to make his announcement. Check out the post below and read what Gunn had to say!

Gunn included a photo of the entire cast and crew to mark the occasion for the five month shoot which began back in September of last year. In the post, Gunn stated: “And that’s a wrap on #TheSuicideSquad. My father died two weeks before we started filming and my dog died two weeks before the end. It was a hard, hard time in my life and yet the most fulfilling time I’ve ever had making a movie. The professionalism, talent, compassion and kindness of this cast and crew inspired me every day. Thanks to everyone involved in this film, in every stage of development, in every department – I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for you all. You are why I make movies. ❤️”

The shoot was hard for Gunn who had just been fired from Disney and Marvel for nefarious tweets he made years earlier but has since been rehired by the House of Mouse and will begin production on Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 once his commitment to Suicide Squad 2 has ended. Gunn also suffered some terrible losses before and after as well but said that this shoot was “the most fulfilling time [he’s] ever had making a movie.”

Suicide Squad 2 stars a bevy of Hollywood talent including  David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Maylin Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Deigo Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Brage, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Margot Robbie.

Robbie, Davis, Kinnaman and Courtney were, of course, members of the original cast and the only ones to make it into the film which is considered a soft reboot.

Plot details are being kept under wraps for now but Suicide Squad 2 will hit theaters on  August 6, 2021 so keep it locked and loaded right here for more to come including our first peek at first footage when it finally is released.
