Here’s some rather unfortunate news I just received about an hour ago. It seems that after 10 incredible seasons, the hit CBS series Hawaii 5-O which was a reboot of the original classic will finally say Aloha on the network with the show riding off into the sunset in a special 2 hour finale on April 3rd.
The show which starred Alex O’Loughlin as Commander Steve McGarrett and Scott Caan as his partner in crime Detective Danny Williams of the elite task force has been a staple of the network ever since it debuted 10 years ago and I for one was a fan from the beginning.

The show had been given some bad press in recent years when co-stars Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park exited the show while claiming that they were not being compensated like their fellow cast members. I for one thought the show didn’t skip a beat after they left and certainly enjoyed the new blood added to the show in new additions Meaghan Rath, and Beulah Koale.
The show also starred Ian Anthony Dale, Taylor Wily, Dennis Chun, Kimee Balmilero and Chi McBride and Katrina Law (Spartacus, Arrow) who was added this year.
In a statement made via Deadline, O’Loughlin thanked the fans for their continuous support:
“This show has been pretty much every waking moment for the last 10 years of my life,” said O’Loughlin. “Everywhere I go on this planet, in every language, I am McGarrett to all these people. What we’ve done, what we’ve accomplished, it’s extraordinary. I can’t really put words to express my level of gratitude. I’m just glad to have been a part of this, a part of history and I’m going to miss it. And to the fans, I don’t know how to thank you guys. Thank you for following us the way you have. I’m going to miss you. Aloha.”
Series creator Peter M. Lenkov added, “Hawaii Five-0 has been such a blessing to me and all of the people who have worked on this incredible show. I truly learned the meaning of ‘ohana’ as the viewers embraced us and the people of Hawaii welcomed us with the privilege to film on their shores. I am forever indebted to the creative genius that was Leonard Freeman who gave us such a beautiful story to begin with. And my eternal gratitude to our cast, led by our hero Alex O’Loughlin, the writers, the production team, our CBS ohana, and most importantly – YOU, the fans, who allowed us to come to work with pride and made our series such a success. Mahalo.”
The reboot was a fantastic mix of action, humor and class with tremendous chemistry between all the cast members and it will surely be sad to see it end. However, they did say that it will get a proper send off so hopefully they deliver on that as that is what the fans deserve. I will definitely miss the witty banter between McGarrett and Danny while riding in the car and they were one of the best duos on television.
Hawaii 5-O currently airs on Fridays at 9/8c on CBS with the finale once again hitting the air on April 3rd.
