Weare just one week away from thepremiere of the long awaited and highy anticipated action-comedy threequel Bad Boys For Life which sees stars Will Smith andMartin Lawrence return to their iconic roles of Miami PD detecyives Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett. When I say that this film is long awaited, I do mean LONG AWAITED as the second film came out over a whopping 17 years ago. There was a point where it looked like that we would never see the return of Smith andLawrence but alas the day is almost here and it looks like the boys haven’t lost a step.
To celebrate the release, Sony Pictures has issued a brand new clip via IGN which showcases an intense and humorous action sequence where our fearless duo chase down a motorcycle riding criminal on the mean streets of the city. Check it out below!
The new installment centers on the Miami PD and its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas, head of a drug cartel. Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature. He is committed to the work of the cartel and is dispatched by his mother to kill Mike Lowery. Paola Nuñez will take on the role of Rita, the tough and funny criminal psychologist who is the newly appointed head of AMMO and Mike’s former girlfriend… the one who got away.
Returning for more fun are Joe Pantoliano who reprises his role of Captain Howard along with Theresa Randle who once again plays Marcus’wife Theresa. New cast members include Vanessa Hudgens (The Princess Switch), Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games) and Charles Melton (Riverdale) who are all part of an elite, new police unit that will clash with Mike and Marcus’ old school tactics. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah helm the film and take over for Michael Bay and the script was written by Joe Carnahan (The A-Team) and Chris Bremmer. Jerry Bruckheimer once again serves as producer.
A lot has been made that the film doesn’t look like it will measure up to the first two films and that Bay is missed from the director’s chair but Will Smiyh has officially confirmed that the movie is well worth the wait. Smith appeared on TheTonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he talked about the movie and why it took so long to get made:
“What we tried to do, that was really critical and important to me, is not try to just do the old movies again. You had to take into consideration the time, had to take into consideration how the characters would have grown. And the reason it took so long is because I didn’t want to make it just as a cash grab. You know, ‘Hey, everybody loves sequels, let’s just do a sequel.’”
Smith went on to say that he was not happy with his last few sequels referring to Men In Black and promised that this one would deliver the goods. “I’m going to keep it real: sometimes I say ‘y’all are gonna love it,’ and y’all not gonna love it. You know, ’cause sometimes I’ve seen it, and I know y’all not gonna love it, but it’s an expensive movie. But this time…it is so good.” That’s good enough for me!
We will all find out just how good the newest entry is when it hits theaters next week on Friday, January 17th. In the meantime, watch the boys in action below and get nolstagic once again, Whatchya gonna do?!
