I’ve been keeping my eyes open for the release of the trailer for The Rescue which stars Brandon Sklenar as a former rodeo cowboy who turns one man war machine when his daughter is taken. the premise sounded 70’s retro with a P.I. tone and vibe and the new footage did not disappoint. Sklenar looks the part of unabashed action hero and even though the final film may not deliver on this promise, it certainly looks like a bloody, brutal unflinching tale of a band of bad guys who certainly messed with the wrong cowboy. A former rodeo cowboy (Brandon Sklenar) takes matters into his own hands when his daughter is kidnapped for ransom. With her devoted dog by his side, he sets out to bring her home and will stop at nothing to find her.
Josh Lucas and Hassie Harrison also star with Lorelei Olivia Mote, Nick Searcy, Austin Amelio, Spencer Treat Clark, Tim Blake Nelson and Josh Duhamel rounding out the stacked cast. Potsy Ponciroli, who delivered one of the best action films of the year in Motor City with Alan Ritchson, is back in the saddle as director and he looks to go two for two. The script was penned by John Fusco who is also known for Young Guns, Hidalgo and The Forbidden Kingdom. Not too shabby for those behind the camera on this one as well.
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: The Rescue looks to satisfy fans of genre fare like Yellowstone, and this actually looks like a film that Taylor Sheridan would be involved in but alas he is not. The first look footage here delivers on what it should for genre fans with ample doses of violence, bravado and stripped-down ferocity. this is definitely a bare bones, meat and potatoes actioner full of grit, blood and emotional consequences. I always say that villains in films should do their homework before they pick on a man’s family and while Sklenar’s role is not ex-military, it looks to still implies that you shouldn’t mess with cowboys either. Sklenar looks action hero ready and if this one delivers, expect more of this from him.
The Rescue hits theaters on January 29th, 2027!
