Last month, it was revealed that Indonesian action phenom Joe Taslim (The RAID) had landed the first announced role in producer James Wan’s Mortal Kombat redux. This first piece of casting news certainly bodes well for the film that has been in development for years and now we have news of another potential casting choice.
According to Variety, Ludi Lin Of Power Rangers fame is in talks to star as Liu Kang in the new anticipated project from New Line Cinema. Simon McQuoid will make his feature film debut Aquaman director James Wan serving as producer. Lin has a connection with Wan as he starred in the DC film as Captain Murk so it makes sense that he would be eyed for the role.
Lin, a Chinese-Canadian actor, at one time was rumored for Marvel’s Shang-Chi but that role eventually went to Simu Liu. Lin has a great deal of martial arts action experience on screen with his Power Rangers credit and also was featured in an episode of Black Mirrors titled Striking Vipers where he played Lance, an Asian fighter who fought in a Mortal Kombat style world.
Liu Kang is known to all fans as the first of the original seven characters to be introduced when Midway put out the first video game all the way back in 1992. Kang is a warrior monk who is one of the chosen fighters to protect the Earth Realm in the tournament.
The plot for the reboot is under lock and key but Liu Kang will most definitely be a central and pivotal character in the new film.
As always, keep it locked and loaded right here for all the latest on Mortal Kombat!
