Paramount Pictures might be fighting a losing battle with their takeover attempt of the WB, but we have some new intel on one the studios upcoming projects which looks to bring an ambitious live action take on the blockbuster Call of Duty video game series. The movie was announced a while back with prolific filmmakers Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan on board to going tactical for what could be one of the most ambitious Black Ops actioners ever.
The Call of Duty movie already has a launch date of June 30th, 2028, and we now know that Berg and Sheridan are going to adapt their film with the Modern Warfare universe of the game. Up until a few days ago, it was still unclear as to which era the adaptation would take on but we now know that Berg and Sheridan are jocking up for a modern war for their upcoming film.
Berg is co-writing the film along with Sheridan and will direct. Along with helping write the script, Sheridan is also producing the film which is a major collaboration between Paramount Pictures and Activision, the company behind creating the best selling and long running video game.
Peter Berg dropped the intel at Fanatics Fest in NYC last week and it makes sense that the Modern Warfare era would be the one to adapt because it would be the most relevant and the action would be more grounded and real-world building all at the same time.
Per Variety: Plot details about the movie have been kept under wraps since it was first announced in September 2025. But during a “Call of Duty in Culture Panel” promoting the October release of “Modern Warfare 4,” which was took place at Fanatics Fest in NYC Saturday, “Call of Duty” movie director and co-writer Peter Berg took the stage to reveal to fans that the film will be set in the “Modern Warfare” universe.
With the Modern Warfare era being adapted, it would make sense to include the characters that are iconic with that era including Captain Price, Soap, Ghost, and Gaz. I’m sure fan casting is well underway with fans so it’ll be interesting to see who will play a role in the film. Mark Wahlberg has been teased and with history with Berg, it would make sense and Wahlberg has massive experience with going tactical on the big screen in such films as Lone Survivor.
One thing is certain and that is that with Berg and Sheridan developing the film, the movie will be massive in scope, scale and most importantly, bombastic tactical action for a next generation of Black Ops warfare and action design. Stay tuned…
