Scott Adkins & Lewis Tan square off in Brawler Image Courtesy of Signature Entertainment
It’s only been roughly a week since we found out that action/martial arts icon Scott Adkins is making his directorial debut with the upcoming actioner Brawler where he also stars with Mortal Kombat’s Lewis Tan, but now we have news that the two are going to tussle yet again. Reports are dropping this past hour that Adkins and Tan will also face off for a second time in a new action-thriller titled Deadlocked which veteran action genre filmmaker Roel Reiné (Classified) will helm.
Deadline brought the word today with Deadlocked being a courtroom-based action pic where Adkins is set to play the heavy to Tan’s heroic disgraced cop looking for a little redemption. Collin Armstrong penned the script which sees Film Mode Entertainment, Vault Entertainment, Rebel Entertainment and In Tandem Productions attached to the project.
Per Deadline, “The plot is based around a routine jury site visit that turns deadly when a mercenary kill team led by Hewitt (Adkins) storms the location in search of a secret ledger detailing citywide corruption. Trapped inside, a disgraced ex-cop-turned-bailiff (Tan) must protect the surviving jurors and battle the attackers outside while exposing a traitor within.”
As much as Adkins has shined in the heroic department, he has also exceled at playing the villain with films like John Wick: Chapter 4 being one of his most high-profile flicks. There’s also The Legend of Hercules where he took on Kellan Lutz, Triple Threat which saw him taking on Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais and The Expendables 2 where he was right hand man to JCVD’s villainous Jean Villain.
Tan is making waves in the action cinema realm over the past few years with starring in high-octane pictures like Wildcat, Safehouse and the recently released Mortal Kombat II. He has also been seen in the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai and has been featured prominently in Deadpool 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine. Tan is without a doubt one of action’s hottest properties and the future is nothing but bright for the powerhouse actor who is turning heads left and right.
Filming on Deadlocked will begin later this year with Film Mode set to bring the project to potential buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival where they will initiate worldwide sales for potential distribution.
Deadlocked was initiated by Melanie DiPietro and Samantha Simon from In Tandem who developed the concept with Reiné and his Rebel production banner. Producers include Craig Baumgarten and Mike Staudt via Vault, with Sean Patrick O’Reilly also producing per Arcana. Film Mode’s Clay Epstein is serving as executive producer.
My reaction to this news is pure chef’s kiss pure and simple. Adkins has been a force to be reckoned with in action cinema and teaming him with surefire new blood like Tan is a no brainer. The action will most certainly be as advertised with flawless execution and jaw dropping intensity, so fans win all the way around when these two elite performers center the ring.
Keep it locked ‘n’ loaded right here for more to hit with Scott Adkins, Lewis Tan and Deadlocked!
