The new John Rambo prequel has found its Col. Trautman and he ain’t no slouch as THR reported last week that Stranger Things star and MCU alum David Harbour has signed on as the prolific character from the blockbuster action franchise. made famous by the late, great Richard Crenna, Harbour has some pretty big Army boots to fill but if anyone can do it. it’s Harbour.
Harbour has signed on for the ambitious and anticipated prequel which sees famed Sisu director Jalmari Helander helming. Plot details are top secret, but we do know that it’s an “origin story that takes place before the events of First Blood, the Sylvester Stallone-starring movie that kicked off the Rambo franchise, John Rambo stars Noah Centineo as John Rambo, who will one day become a man who just wants to be left alone but here is a soldier fighting a war in the jungle.”
John Rambo has finished filming in Thailand, so Harbour’s casting news has been kept secret until now. Franchise icon Sylvester Stallone has come onboard to executive produce the prequel along with prolific Hollywood filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo, Trevor Short, and Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk of Bonfire Legend.
This is one film that is hotly anticipated and that’s an understatement as many is excited while more are skeptical. With Sisu director Jalmari Helander at the helm who is known for over the top, visceral onscreen carnage and the man himself Sly giving his stamp of approval, I’m cautiously optimistic and can’t wait to see what Centineo will bring to the property. Adding star firepower like Harbour certainly bodes well so we wait to see how this will end up.
