He’s back! Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle AKA The Punisher is taking center stage and judging from the ending of Daredevil: Born Again season one, he’s really pissed off now and we will all bear witness to his mission of punishment. Bernthal is ready to take on the worse as the Disney+ one shot special, now titled The Punisher: One Last Kill (I Like that version much better) has a new poster and most important of all, a release date. Check out Bernthal’s grizzled and mad as hell Frank on the new one sheet below!

The Punisher: One Last Kill is set to hit the Disney streaming se3rvice on May 12th and that is one sentence I never thought I would say. The Punisher and Disney together? This is the world we live in, but I’ll take it as Bernthal has promised that this special is going to feature the most savage Punisher yet. The release of the special is set to coincide with the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 which premieres on Tuesday, March 24th. The finale is the same day as the premiere of One Last Kill so needless to say, that will be one hell of a day for comic book fans.
There is a brief synopsis for the special and it reads: “As Frank Castle searches for meaning beyond revenge, an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight.” Not very informative but I’m sure more will hit while the premiere gets closer.

The title is bound to create conversation amongst fanboy nation but I for one hope that Frank is here to stay in the MCU. We all know that Frank escaped during the Daredevil: Born Again season 1’s stinger scene and he is set to hook up with Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July so I feel Marvel Studios has massive plans for the character and to have an actor of Bernthal’s status in the MCU bodes well for the future. We will see how this all plays out. Hopefully they balance the more family friendly Punisher with the darker more violent one because I will take both if it means seeing The Punisher on screen for years to come.
It’s been documented that Bernthal will not be in Season 2 of Born Again which does hurt a little as The Punisher would be perfect for Matt’s ant-Fisk team that was being formed at the end of last season. Maybe they will surprise us leading into the special, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Bernthal has been very vocal about bringing fans the best Punisher yet, teasing a dark, twisted and violent tale in the special.
“I care very deeply about Frank, I’m really grateful that I’m getting the opportunity to tell the story that I think the fans deserve,” Bernthal has said in the past about the special. “We’re giving it our all and we’re trying to tell a Frank Castle story that we’re going to turn our back on the audience – it’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be light, and I think it’s the version that this character deserves and I’m just beyond honored and grateful that we get the opportunity.”
Bernthal added, “It’s going to be dark; Frank has no interest in breaking out the darkness. It’s not going to be easy. I don’t know if that’s the Netflix tone then that’s what it’s going to be. It will not be Punisher-lite, I promise you that.”
Now we wait for a trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill and we can only hope it hits soon. Lock “N Load Punisheer faithful as Bernthal proclaimed on social media, “Welcome back Frank!”
