It’s official! The month of January is now officially a Jason Statham holiday month. The day won’t exactly be on the same date every year, but we can pretty much expect a Statham actioner to land at the same time every year. This year sees The Stath starring in Shelter which hits next week on January 30th and now we have official confirmation that the action icon’s follow up to his 2024 hit The Beekeeper will launch next January!
Deadline brought the word yesterday that The Beekeeper 2, which this time is helmed by prolific action maestro Timo Tjahjanto, will hit theaters on January 15th, 2027, which is the MLK four-day holiday weekend. This goes in line with the first film which hit on the same weekend back in 2024.
Directed by Timo, who is best known for cranking out extreme action flicks like The Night Comes for Us and The Shadow Strays as well as Nobody 2 recently, is written by Kurt Wimmer. Statham returns along with Jeremy Irons, Yara Shahidi, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave, Pom Klementieff, and Adam Copeland who is also known as former WWE wrestling superstar Edge.
Statham is also producing the film via his Punch Palace Productions banner as well as Chris Long per his Longshot Productions, and Wimmer. The plot is classified as of now, but it will focus on Statham’s Adam Clay who is a former member of one of the most elite and secretive black ops organizations known as The Beekeepers. In the first film, Clay went on a brutal kill mission of revenge when someone close to him was killed due to a phishing scam. What transpired was a massive display of Statham’s onscreen skills that ran the gauntlet of bad guys until he reached the top which included the highest office of the government.
Director Timo Tjahjanto has promised an even bigger over the top sequel with villains that look like they came straight out of the most extreme Anime and manga. In an interview with The Direct, Tjahjanto teased how wild it would get.
“In terms of, like, the villains that we have for Beekeeper 2, especially, like, you’re gonna be blown away just how ‘genre’ it feels, you know… almost like a, like a, something out of, like an anime, like manga pages, you know.”
Tjahjanto also elaborated on the character of Statham’s Adam Clay and compared him to The Punisher which sounds like perfection. “I’m definitely drawn to the Beekeeper series just because when I watched it, I always felt that, ‘Wow, this is essentially Statham playing one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe,’ which is The Punisher,” he said. “If I can’t make The Punisher film, if the gods of film aren’t allowing me to do a Punisher film yet, then I’ll turn Adam Clay into my own version of The Punisher. Which is great! I think Statham has that quality in him. He has that very stoic Frank Castle-esque quality to him. And I love that Adam Clay is definitely a guy who is quite colorful in his choice of violence. He gets really, really creative with his violence.“
Any way you slice it, The Beekeeper 2 is going to look to ramp up the signature Statham action design with even more brutal beatdowns, sizzling firepower and the most insane combat action design ever seen on film. It does suck that we have to wait a full year for the sequel but there’s enough Statham to go around in 2026. For now we have Shelter hitting next week to satisfy our Statham fix and the action star also has Mutiny hitting on August 21st of this year so there will be no shortage of The Stath to satisfy serious, hardcore action fans!
