Bob Odenkirk might not just be the new standard in action cinema bravado, but he might just be the standard in one word title action pics as well. His upcoming crime thriller Normal which reunites him with Nobody and John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad has been acquired by Magnolia Pictures. The new acquisition also comes with a spring 2026 launch date as the film will hit theaters on April 17th of next year.
Helmed by Ben Wheatley who is best known for directing The Stath in Meg 2: The Trench as well as High-Rise and Free Fire, Odenkirk’s Normal tells the story of “Ulysses, a lawman who is thrust into the temporary role of the sheriff for the small sleepy town Normal after the previous one’s untimely death. When the town’s bank is robbed by an out-of-town couple, Ulysses arrives on the scene to find that the town is hiding much more sinister deep-seated secrets under its surface and everyone – from the bartender to the priest – is in on it. And now Ulysses, who’s up-till-now focused only on running away from the demons of his past, must uncover the full extent of this criminal conspiracy.” Both Kolstad and Odenkirk have both penned the script. This one seems to hit the quirky vibe a little bit more than the Nobody films did, but it still showcases Odenkirk getting his hands dirty when it comes to action.

The Nobody films have cemented that people want to see an everyman like Odenkirk go kinetic and ballistic in action films although the latter failed to do any damage at the box office. It’s a mystery to me as to why it failed to connect but hopefully Odenkirk will still give action a try as he nails the target just like he did with more comedic roles like his hit series Better Call Saul.
We have yet to see footage from Normal but early bird reviews of the film from its premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Fest have praised the over the top atmosphere and violence. Odenkirk is also said to be in fine form once again as the leading man of action who delivers something a little off the beat and path. The above image of Odenkirk capping off with an assault rifle certainly bodes well for fans of violent action cinema.
Lock ‘N Load for more to hit from Odenkirk and Normal as we are the ultimate destination for your action fix!
