24 to this day remains one of my all-time action series and Kiefer Sutherland delivered a chef’s kiss as black ops agent Jack Bauer as one of TV’s deadliest anti-heroes. Sutherland has gravitas to spare and for his new action-thriller, he’s teaming up with an icon that has even more gravitas and Sutherland is ready to wage a blistering holy war on crime.
Variety is bringing word that Sutherland will star alongside Hollywood icon Al Pacino for Luc Besson’s kinetic actioner Father Joe. Besson, who wrote and will produce the film, is no stranger to action by any means is best known for putting out some raw action throughout the years in the likes of Taken with Liam Neeson, Lucy with Scarlett Johansson, and Leon: The Professional which starred Jean Reno and delivered a breakout performance by a young Natalie Portman. According to Variety, Father Joe will be helmed by Barthélémy Grossmann (Arthur: Malediction). Up and coming talent Ever Anderson (Black Widow) will also star in the film.
Father Joe is an action-thriller that will take place in Manhattan in the 90’s and will tell the story of “a man of faith who wages a violent war against the city’s criminal underworld. Pacino plays a powerful mob boss whose empire collides with Father Joe’s crusade. Anderson, the rising star of “Peter Pan & Wendy” and “Black Widow,” plays a young woman caught between danger and redemption under Joe’s guidance.”
Pacino as a mob boss and Sutherland as a retribution seeking priest sounds to contain all the ingredients for a banger of an action drama and it will be sensational to see Sutherland strap on the guns again and go head-to-head with Pacino who has no problem stealing every scene that he is in.
Father Joe will commence principal photography this month and will hail from Besson’s Eurocorp which has released several of his action films over the decades like the aforementioned titles above.
Lock N Load for more to come from Sutherland, Pacino and Father Joe as we are the ultimate destination for your action fix!
