One could really feel the effects of not having Marvel Studios at this year’s SDCC and it was an event similar to when the pandemic affected it where there really wasn’t much to get excited over. We did get the Predator: Badlands panel as well as Tron:Ares but other than James Gunn, John Cena and fellow cast members taking over Hall H on Saturday, this year’s Con was a bust.
Don’t get me wrong, the panel for Gunn’s DCU Peacemaker: Season 2 was a joy and seeing all in attendance with Cena, of course, wearing his Peacemaker colors was worth it and Gunn was sure to give the crowd some spoilers and scenes never seen before along with a new trailer for the show that returns on HBO MAX on August 21st. Peacemaker is definitely NSFW and it will be delightful to see how it integrates with other DCU properties like Superman which is clearly more family friendly. Check out the new footage, complete with an intro from Gunn and the complete panel from Saturday below!
Those in attendance for the special Hall H panel included DC Studios CEO James Gunn along with returning cast members John Cena, Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt), Freddie Stroma (Vigilante/Adrian Chase), and Steve Agee (Economos). New season 2 acquisitions Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.), Sol Rodriguez (Sasha Bordeaux), and Tim Meadows (Langston Fleury) were also in attendance.
During the panel, Gunn reiterated that part of season 1 will be canon for the DCU and that Gunn’s fellow MCU cohort Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy) will also be a part of season 2 and will be a “Lex Luthor” for Eagley as he will be playing the world’s most feared eagle hunter. Gunn also stressed the point that when it came to DC superhero pets, Krypto was stronger than Eagley although the latter makes for a better comrade.
Gunn also teased a brand-new opening to the season which should out do the masterful opening salvo to the inaugural season when the entire cast boogied to “Do You Wanna Taste It?” Holland joked that she was thrilled that she got to do a Dirty Dancing lift in the opening so fans should be entertained come August 21st when the show hits.

In terms of plot and the timeline, season two of Peacemaker takes place exactly one month after the events of James Gunn’s Superman and that both Guy Gardner / Green Lantern and Maxwell Lord will feature in the first episode. One interesting aspect of the junior season is that Peacemaker will find himself in an alternate universe where he is loved and revered. Cena, as we have already seen from the initial trailer will be playing multiple versions of himself while Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is after him for the death of his son. Gunn also reiterated that there will be many surprises in store.
New posters have also hit for Peacemaker, and you can view them in the gallery below!

Anyway, the question remains and that is “do you really wanna, do you really wanna taste it?“ The answer to that is absolutely without a doubt. Merging in Peacemaker from the defunct DCEU into the blossoming DCU is genius and will surely keep fandom on their toes. Cena’s portrayal of this character might just be one of the best ever on comic book film and TV lore so bring it on!
