Casual fans might think that TV star Jensen Ackles is officially throwing his hat into the action genre ring with a starring role in Prime’s Upcoming series Countdown, but true fans know differently. Ackles has been cutting his teeth hero style for decades now in successful stints in shows like Supernatural and most recently on CBS’ breakout hit Tracker. The versatile actor has all the right ingredients for star power including charisma, a wonderful sarcastic wit and no hangups on performing stunts when the time call for it and the clock is ticking on his latest explosive project!
Ackles is now front and center for Prime’s excellent looking new covert ops series Countdown where he plays the head of an elite anti-terrorist task force who must save the country and the world in the process. With my action shows like SEAL Team and SWAT (even with the spin-off announced) ending, I have been looking for something to fill the void and this is right up my alley and being a huge Jensen Ackles fan is certainly a plus.
Check out the genre star in action as he channels all the action hero cred he can!
When an officer with the Department of Homeland Security is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD detective Mark Meachum, portrayed by Ackles, is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement, to investigate. But the hunt for the killer soon uncovers a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions.

Countdown will hit Prime on June 25th with a special 3-episode debut. The series also stars another fan favorite of mine in The Last Ship’s Eric Dane (Bad Boys: Ride or Die), and Jessica Camacho (The Flash, Watchmen). The series also stars Violett Beane (Death and Other Details), Elliot Knight (The Boys), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock).
Ackles, like I said, has highlighted his action bravado before, but this is more old school, throwback style action hero status like in the 80’s and 90’s. His character of LAPD detective Mark Meachum gets to blast away at the baddies as he also dodges bullets, escape explosions and get into some pretty stripped down and brutal beatdowns. His character is a flawed hero though as he is also suffering from addiction and the thrill of the hunt which sometimes puts him and his team in danger.
