I was excited for the sequel to Ben Affleck’s The Accountant 2 simply when it was announced as the first film is one of my favorite sleeper hits to come along in a while. Combining the fact that Jon Bernthal was also in it, and it included some rad military style tactical action sequences, a sequel is gravy. The original was a modest hit, so a sequel wasn’t supposed to be in the cards but the powers that be actually saw a good thing when they had it so here we are.
New images have been released which should get fans even more excited and you can see them below with one showing Affleck and Bernthal going tactical!

Amazon MGM has also released a synopsis for the movie that reads: “Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.”
Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) returns to helm from a screenplay penned by Bill Dubuque, who wrote the 2016 original. Cynthia Addai-Robinson (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Colombiana, Star Trek Into Darkness), returns as well with J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man, Red One). Marybeth Medina, Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World Dominion, Plane, Cowboy Bebop), Allison Robertson (The 31, Me and My Darkness) also star.
When the 2016 thriller The Accountant starring Ben Affleck first hit, I was unaware of just how awesome a movie it was. It was truly one of the best sleeper hits I have ever seen, and it also starred a pre-Punisher Jon Bernthal in an equally rad role as well playing Affleck’s highly trained and dangerous brother Brax. Affleck crafted one of the most unique anti-heroes in action cinema with his portrayal of Christian Wolff, a highly skilled CPA with autism who just happens to also be a forensic accountant for several nefarious criminal organizations. The film was more thriller than action, but the adrenaline beats that it had were sensational with a rousing finale featuring a great firefight and some serious hand to hand combat damage.
What really excites me is that Affleck and Bernthal will have more screen time together as they team up to take down the nefarious forces. The first film had them at odds with each other with only one scene of dialogue between them. Not only will we see them interact more but that also bodes well for the action sequences. It may not be technically Batman and The Punisher joining forces per say but I’ll take what I can get and it’s close enough. Chef’s kiss on that one.
The film is set to make its world debut at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival on March 28th. The film will have a wide release on April 25th via Amazon MGM Studios. Expect a trailer to drop very soon!
