One of the best in the game is steeping up his A game as international action and martial arts sensation Iko Uwais has launched his brand-new production banner titled simply enough Uwais Pictures. Uwais has climbed the levels of action superstardom ever since his career defining role in The Raid and has steadily put out nothing but first rate, hyper kinetic action films for the last few decades. An expert in the beautiful and devastating Indonesian martial art of Pencak Silat, Uwais has defined action design with some of the most creative brutal and memorable fight sequences along with heavy handed human drama to firmly put his name on the lips of action fans everywhere.
Deadline made the announcement that sees Uwais and his Uwais Pictures readying not one but two action films including his directorial debut which will headline the European Film Market (EFM). Uwais is looking to achieve the same international success for his signature action brand and elevate “modestly budgeted, local-language” action pics and bring a new generation into the market for hardcore fans to enjoy.
The first movie, which is Uwais’ directorial debut, is called Timur and it “follows the real-life international hostage crisis that took place in Mapenduma in 1996. The subsequent rescue operation was overseen by now-Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The film is Uwais’ directorial debut, and the first action film co-produced out of Indonesia.“

The second movie is Ikatan Darah and it “is a local-language action film in which a former martial arts athlete must face a network of loan sharks to save her younger brother, who is trapped in online gambling debt and risking their family’s safety.”
Both films are poised to hit the EFM hard and surely will find ample distribution companies waiting in the wings to buy up the properties. I expect Well Go USA to be one of the top contenders for the North American market.
Uwais and his team have worked together for years and together they are looking to incorporate “fight choreography, action design, and stunt performance from the inception of its projects.” Other leading members of Uwais Pictures include Ryan Santoso, Chief Executive Producer, along with Yentonius Jerriel Ho, Chief Executive Producer; and Adamy Nurdin, Chief Operating Officer.
Uwais issued a statement about his excitement for the future and the launching of his signature action brand.
“I am excited to unleash the next phase of Uwais Pictures with the release of Timur and Ikatan Darah,” said Uwais. “We are bringing a new style of action movies for audiences around the world.”
Action fans worldwide will certainly revel at this news as there are millions out there looking for something new and never before seen when it comes to top tier action design. There’s definitely no on better to deliver it to them then Uwais himself. Lock n Load and stay tuned for more to follow!
