Once again, I was never much of a gamer, but I do enjoy dabbling in the action related titles from time to time like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter and I was a huge fan of the Jet Li action game Rise of Honor. Being able to beat down baddies as the iconic martial arts action icon was nothing short of rad and it contained some of the best fighting in a video game ever and I became pretty proficient with it. Video game adaptations have been definitely hit and miss over the decades with the latter being the norm unfortunately but to this day, film companies continue to try and crack it. For every Mortal Kombat 1995, fans get more of House of the Dead unfortunately.
The latest live action adaptation comes in the form of Prime Video’s take on the Sega fighting game Like a Dragon-Yakuza and the initial trailer that was launched earlier today looks foreboding, graphic and promising. This series has been in development for over four years, but the wait is almost over. Check out the new footage and key art below!
Masaharu Take (The Naked Director) helms the 6-episode series and Kamen Rider alum Ryoma Takeuchi takes the lead as Kazuma Kiryu. The official synopsis reads: Like a Dragon: Yakuza will revolve around Kazuma Kiryu, a former member of the titular Japanese mafia in Kamurochō, as he and those around him are put on different paths due to Kiryu’s decisions, with the story beginning in 1995 and going to 2005. Ryoma Takeuchi leads the ensemble Like a Dragon: Yakuza cast as Kiryu, with an October 24 premiere date set for the show.

The teaser doesn’t show off much, but we still get a glimpse of the stylish visuals and a tease of the martial arts action promised so we will have to wait until an extended trailer hits for the show which will debut on Prime Video on October 24th so get ready to get tatted and unsheathe those swords as Japan’s nefarious crime organization takes the spotlight for ultra-violence and heavy-handed drama!
