After months of teasing and wondering what we might be missing, Netflix has officially given us a sampling of Zack Snyder’s ultra-hardcore director’s cut to his sci-fi epic Rebel Moon. Locked and loaded with amped up violence and sex, Snyder finally brings his true vision to Netflix which showcases blood-soaked carnage and robots with breasts. You heard me right. “Delve further into the mythology and madness of Zack Snyder’s epic sci-fi saga in the viciously sexier, bloodier world of Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed.”
Both parts will debut on August 2nd bearing all new titles that describe what fans are in store for. Part 1 is called Chalice of Blood while Part 2 is titled Curse of Forgiveness. The cast returns which includes Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, with Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of ‘Jimmy’. Also starring Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, Elise Duffy, Jena Malone, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi and Corey Stoll.
The combat sequences flow with blood and decapitations galore while there is definitely some pretty hardcore sexual situations to be had. Snyder is definitely going for an adult only Star Wars meets The Magnificent Seven vibe here and it looks like a home run. I’m sure though that for the omes that hated the PG-13 cuts, these won’t win them over either but I’m all in.
