With Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox now known as 20th Century Studios, I think in the future we will get just about every major Marvel Comics superhero taking on Predators and Xenomorphs. After all, why else would you merge? Last year saw the baddest of the bad asses in Wolverine waging war with the galactic bounty hunter and this summer will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers, going to battle against a horde of Aliens in AVA: Avengers Vs. Aliens. It makes sense to crossover these iconic IP’s and it gives fandom a chance to relish in all the blood-soaked superhero and alien savagery and carnage. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing all these great movie and comic book characters interacting and fighting with one another.
This August will see another high value Mavel target go up against the Predator when Wakanda’s own Black Panther takes up arms to do battle with the fierce creature when the skull hunting war machine picks Wakanda as its new hunting grounds. The Predator has gotten a taste of what the Marvel Universe has to offer, and he wants more. Hailing from writer Benjamin Percy, who is also responsible for bringing us Predator vs. Wolverine, and comic book artist Chris Allen comes the 4 issue limited event series. Check out the cover art below courtesy of Ken Lashley courtesy of Marvel Comics!

The plot for the event series reads: WAKANDA…IS PREY? You saw the Marvel Universe’s most tenacious mutant go up against one of the greatest killing machines in history in PREDATOR VS. WOLVERINE – and survive. Now the planet Earth lives on in Predator lore…a planet full of the most exhilarating prey they could imagine! And the strongest weapons in the Multiverse are in their sights. When a young Predator with something to prove comes for Wakanda’s vibranium, the Black Panther faces an enemy whose resources rival those of his great nation. Who will prove stronger?
If the cover isn’t all things cool itself, the website SuperHeroHype has sweetened this tease by showcasing actual inside art from the first issue. The art looks amazing, and I can’t wait to crack open the issue and dive into all the Black Panther on Predator action I can handle. Scroll below to see it all in the gallery!
The website Gizmodo broke the news of this crossover back in May and they were able to chat with Percy who promised that no matter if you’re a fan of the Predator, Black Panther or someone new coming to the table, fans will find something to love about how he portrays these great characters.
“If you’re a comics nerd, I will feed you. If you’re a movie nerd, I will feed you too. And if you’ve never read or seen anything about Predator or Black Panther, you can get fed as well. I want these to be evergreen titles, and the best way to accomplish that is to honor legacy while not overly burdening the reader with continuity homework.”
Percy also teased about the story and that is relates to T’Challa and Killmonger battling it out for supremacy. We will also see a King of Predators who has sons duking it out and we will witness why Wakanda’s Vibranium is important to the species.
“What’s the Black Panther story people are most familiar with? The battle over the throne between T’Challa and Killmonger. I’m channeling something similar to that here—except on a cosmic scale. This Predator King has two sons who are at war with one another. Vibranium might be the weapon that determines their claim.“
With Marvel getting into the Predator battle realm, I’m going to have to look up all the DC crossovers that came before in years past. After all, before the Predator was set up at 20th century Films and Disney, he was a product of Dark Horse Comics which would crossover with DC all the time. The Predator has taken on the best of the best in the past including Batman, Superman, and the entire JLA. May the strongest warrior on earth or the galaxy reign supreme! Wolverine managed to survive his encounter so how will Black Panther stack up against the elite of the elite the galaxy has to offer? We shall see. It’s Marvel’s turn to go up against the iconic beast so come get some!
