No pressure at all but of you screw this up, we are going to have words. Paramount Pictures and Hasbro officially announced today that Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly has been tasked with penning the overly ambitious G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover event movie. It does bode well for fans of both IPs as Connolly is an expert in writing for huge franchise having had a hand in writing little known films like Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Detective Pikachu, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Alot of hardcore fans hated the latter but seriously the company butchered the film so I wouldn’t blame Connolly for it. Just saying.
This hiring comes on the heels as MCU and Extraction star Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star in the film. I call Hemsworth as our new Duke, but we shall see. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy are all producing so hopefully they treat the movie with kid gloves seeing as there’s millions of diehard fans who don’t want to see this get screwed up. It’ll be interesting to see what characters from both brands will make the cut, but you can bet that Optimus and Bumblebee will be involved as well as Duke, Snake Eyes and Scarlet will also. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure they will go with better known characters. Sorry if you’re a fan of Snow Job, Quick Kick and Ratchet.

A crossover has been teased ever since the stinger scene of director Steven Caple Jr.’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts dropped that bomb. Even with that ending, Caple Jr. still said that it took a lot to line up to get the ball rolling.
“I had to talk to all the producers and let them know the vision or direction I was going in,” Caple Jr. said in an interview with THR. “I didn’t know all of it at the moment when I had first pitched it or when they first read it, but throughout the process of making this movie, it started to get deeper and deeper. So I knew a little bit more of the direction I wanted to go in with the Joes, but the studio was on board since the beginning. It just took a while to get all the parties on board and settled.“

We will have a very long wait to see the finished product unfortunately but here’s hoping that it will be worth it. Even if they have to make more than one movie, I, as a lifelong fan of both franchises, want this pic to be epic on a biblical scale. I’m talking set pieces unrivaled and all my favorite characters unleashing holy hell on earth. Just saying.
