Insert facepalm here. I’m not sure but I think we just took another two steps backwards after Noah Centineo was tapped at one time to play He-Man in Netflix’s failed Masters of the Universe reboot. I know the Cannon Films version with Dolph Lundgren is very much maligned in circles but to us fanboys, Lundgren was perfect in the role and the film holds a near and dear place in our hearts with all of its rather noticeable flaws.
Cue to today and Amazon MGM, who is now the new contender for the project, is getting the gears moving on the long-delayed film version of the ever-popular kids’ toy and cartoon fantasy property and today they have officially announced who they’re He-Man will be. Drum roll please…
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you …Nicholas Galitzine. OK, let me be frank and say that the new actor playing Prince Adam/He-Man doesn’t have to look like Lundgren in his full on 80’s prime but come on. First of all, I never heard of him and, yes, I know that’s not a bad thing but take a look at the actor who is best known for Amazon MGM’s The Idea of You. Scroll below…

Now let’s take a look at He-Man shall we…

OK, I put the above photos in to show that yes, this actor is in shape, but nothing screams He-Man. Yes, I know Centineo was going through a massive workout regime for the role, but I am not getting anything positive from this. Once again, I will reiterate that I must see first look footage before I really get my best opinion moving but this cries out red flags everywhere. I could be wrong, and I usually am, but…Oh. Boy. Amazon is clearly looking at the female audience here which is a massive mistake because, if I’m not mistaken, males represent a huge chunk of the audience.
Bumblebee‘s Travis Knight has been tapped to helm the long and winding He-Man pic and these two are really the only ones we know of right now that are involved. Evidentially, Galitzine has starred in three of the most popular streaming movies to date including Purple Hearts for Netflix, the aforementioned The Idea of You and Red, White and Royal Blue which were both for Prime Video. I can see that Amazon MGM likes what they see in Galitzine having had him star in the previous two films and now Masters of the Universe but it’s going to take a lot to get me onboard with this casting decision. A LOT.
For all of you that have been living under a rock, Masters of the Universe is Mattel’s famous line of toys, cartoon shows and comic books that have become rather iconic. In the fantasy/action property, Prince Adam is Eternia’s protector and savior who battles with his allies against the villainous and ruthless Skeletor. When it’s time to rumble, Adam transforms into the Conan-esque He-Man with the help of his trusty Power Sword. Cannon Films infamously put out their version starring Lundgren and Frank Langello as Skeletor back in 1987 and I had the honor of seeing it on the big screen before buying all the home video versions of the movie. Yes, it’s not the greatest movie but it is all kinds of awesome, so I guess I am a little biased.
Amazon MGM has set the date of June 5th, 2026, for a theatrical launch before it becomes exclusive to the streaming platform. I CANNOT wait to see how Galitzine transforms into the beloved and heroic He-Man and who knows, I could jump onboard when the time comes. But this is today…
I can hear the roars of the Masters of the Universe loyal fan base as I write this.
