With its debut on Prime Video set for March, the new, reimagining of Road House stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, who was played by the late, great Patrick Swayze in the original cult classic that is beloved by fans everywhere. The original movie’s key art famously shows off Swayze as Dalton in all his bad ass glory with the now iconic posing with his arms crossed. He stands in front of the neon lit Road House logo, which is made up to look like a sign you would see at a dive bar back in the 80’s. That being said, Amazon and MGM have now unveiled a new poster for their impending remake which showcases Gyllenhaal in a similar pose with the remake’s similar logo lit up above his head. Not to be out done, UFC bad boy Conor McGregor, who plays the heavy in the movie, has received his own poster as well teasing the climatic throwdown between the two stars. Transport yourself back to the 80’s with the retro vibes in the new key art below! Having a little fun, I included the Patrick Swayze poster as well so you can see how the new one pays its respects because, even after his untimely passing, Swayze is till the king.

“In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the ’80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.”
I was not a fan of this project when it was first announced but I feel I’m going to eat crow come March when I finally see it because it looks damn good. Just don’t compare it to the original and see it as its own thing. From the trailer, the movie looks fun, brutal and the set pieces look bigger and more thunderous as there appears to be a huge battle in the ocean. The infusion of MMA for the throwdowns is a nice touch as that is where we are with fight flicks these days plus it’ll make this version stand out from the Swayze film. The punches and kicks definitely feel harder and more pronounced judging from the footage, and I’m intrigued.
Conor McGregor, who plays the heavy this time to Gyllenhaal looks to be having one huge ass thrill a minute playing the bad guy and it stands to mention that their climatic altercation will surely be one that fans will be looking at. After all, Swayze’s brawl with Marshall Teague is considered one of the best movie fights ever. The new sequence looks amped up to say the least with Gyllenhaal and McGregor serving up some blunt force fight choreography to satisfy the masses so we shall see.
The complete main cast has received character posters as well including Daniela Melchior who has become quite the popular actress as of late. With starring roles in Suicide Squad and Fast X, she plays Gyllenhaal’s love interest in the movie. Additional cast members include Jessica Williams, Billy Magnussen, Lukas Gage, Darren Barnet, and Post Malone, who is listed as Austin Post in the movie. Again, I’ve said in the past that this is the movie’s weakest aspect as there is no one else to really get excited about. I feel that the movie would have served well to diehard fans to include Sam Elliot who starred in the original as Dalton’s best friend and resident elite bouncer Wade Garrett. That would have been a slam dunk but what do I know. It would have connected both movies and given this one some much needed soul.

Come March 21st, we will know for sure where this reimagining stands but I do love that they are giving the Swayze led original the respect it deserves with all the winks and nods with the marketing and what will be in the full movie. Lock N Load for my thoughts upon release!!!!
