With its debut set for next month, Netflix’s anti-fairy tale Damsel has readied a new trailer featuring star Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, Godzilla vs Kong) who is channeling her inner bad ass. Faced with a royal family that harbors a very dark secret as well as one monstrous fire breathing dragon, Brown is going to prove that she is not a titular heroine here. Official Synopsis: From director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and writer Dan Mazeau (Fast X)comes Damsel which “follows Brown’s “dutiful” Damsel after she’s selected to and agrees to marry a handsome prince. But her magical future turns into a nightmare present after she learns she’s being used by the royal family as a sacrifice to pay an ancient debt — leaving her to defend herself against a treacherous threat.”
My daughters are huge Disney fans meaning I have seen my fair share of Disney Princesses movies so it’s refreshing to see a film that looks to strip away all that is usually expected of a character like this. Brown is in true bad ass form and the special effects look like they warrant a view on the big screen instead of on the streaming service. I’m all for men and women kicking some butt equally on film and especially if it’s done right and this one looks to be En Fuego.
Starring along with Brown is a loaded cast including Robin Wright, Angela Bassett, Ray Winstone, Brooke Carter and Shohreh Aghdashloo. The film hits Netflix on March 8th!
