Welcome to the first ever article in the new Comix Zone category here at Action-Flix.com! Here, I’ll be reviewing some of the most popular comic book runs as well as delivering new daily Intel for the world of comic books and graphic novels. I’ve been a fan of comics ever since I was a kid and with not one but two comic book shops within two miles of me, it was a sign to get back to what I loved the most growing up as a kid besides movies.
What better way to inaugurate the new Comix Zone here at the site then by announcing two of my favorite all time Marvel characters uniting for a 5 issue assault on the senses. That’s right! The Punisher is out to get a pre-S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury during the Vietnam War at all costs with enemy combatants hot on his trail. Revered comic book ace Garth Ennis, who is responsible for creating one of the most popular Punisher comic runs ever with the MAX series, is once again setting Frank Castle on a new mission. His latest target…none other than Nick Fury himself! Ennis is joined by an elite team for this series in artist Jacen Burrows and Dave Johnson to bring this epic and blistering war saga to life in the pages of one of this year’s most action drenched takes. The MAX rated limited series is titled Get Fury and it’s set to debut this May and it’s sad to be Ennis’ farewell to The Punisher. Check out all the Intel, cover art and images below!

In the highly anticipated series, Castle is tasked to take out Fury as the latter has been captured and the government doesn’t want Fury to divulge any trade secrets. The above cover was designed by award winning artist Dave Johnson who pays homage to original cover of The Amazing Spider-Man issue #129 which was the very first appearance of Castle AKA The Punisher.
Jacen Burrows, who is responsible for the inside artwork also created a variant cover for issue #1 which you can see below!

Official Synopsis: It’s 1971, there is a war raging in Vietnam, and Nick Fury has been captured by the Viet Cong. At this moment, they don’t quite understand that they have in their possession a man who knows enough secrets to damage the United States beyond comprehension. The C.I.A., however, DOES realize this, and they can’t risk their enemy getting those secrets, so they dispatch the most deadly man in the U.S. Army: LT. Frank Castle.

“There’s a nice sense of things coming full circle with GET FURY; the editor is my good friend Nick Lowe, who handled BORN back at the beginning some 20+ years ago, and just like that story, this one sees Frank Castle as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam (in fact, it goes some way to explaining how he ended up at Firebase Valley Forge in the first place),” Ennis said about returning to these iconic characters.
Ennis added: “As the two most violent men in mainstream comics, Fury and Frank work well together—just like they did in the Vietnam sequence of FURY: MY WAR GONE BY. All in all, if GET FURY turns out to be the last time I write Frank, I think it’ll make for a worthy farewell.”
I’ve picked the perfect time to reignite my passion for all things comics wity the new GI Joe series hitting along with Duke and Cobra Commander uniting with The Transformers in a shared universe. Not to mention Avengers Twilight which is essentially a The Dark Knight Returns version of Captain America who comes out of retirement to assemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes one more time. I’m picking runs that are just starting so I can follow them and be there from the beginning although I know that in the future I’ll probably gravitate towards other comic runs. Get Fury looks to be an instant classic with two of Marvel’s baddest characters setting Vietnam on fire with blazing tracer fire.
Be sure to check with your local comic book shops about pre-orders for Get Fury!
