One thing I love is when movies, TV series or books mesh genres together. One of the best happens to be when action and horror collide for ultimate thrills and scares infused with blistering and adrenaline invoking action set pieces and it just goes to show you that these two genres are too big and sometimes, just sometimes, they have to unite to deliver the amped up goods.
Case in point, I have the latest mash up of action, horror and the supernatural with the feature film adaptation LAWSON which hails from the bestselling novels of the same name. From the mind of Boston bred author Jon F. Merz, the Lawson series tells the story of an elite operative who just happens to be a tried-and-true vampire. His mission…to protect his vampire clan from every and all threats that seek to destroy their way of life. Mixing bullets, bravado and biting horror, the first movies titled simply enough Lawson, seeks to build a franchise of films just like the books have done.
The movie has just released a special teaser trailer and we have it for you directly below so check out the atmospheric action and supernatural intrigue below!
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:
LAWSON, based on the bestselling series of novels by Boston author Jon F. Merz, tells the story of a covert operative for a race of living vampires who must battle a sinister conspiracy to resurrect an ancient vampire god, while an old enemy resurfaces from his shadowy past.
The movie, the first of a planned franchise, was shot in various Massachusetts and Rhode Island towns like Medfield, Whitinsville, Boston, Providence, Rumford, and others. The book series, which spans more than 35 adventures, has been called “Jason Bourne with fangs” by industry trade Booklist and has a fan base of devoted Lawson lovers.

Merz co-wrote the screenplay with Dan Scarlatelli, who directs. Manchester, NH-native Brandon S. Stumpf stars in the titular role with a supporting cast of veteran talent from the New England and NYC area, including Shahjehan Khan (Succession), Liz Eng (Plus 1s), Jam Murphy (Target), Pamela Jayne Morgan (The Holdovers), Jose Guns Alves (Law & Order SVU), Jay Street (The Finest Hours), Morgan Barnsley, Christian Carrigan, Thomas Goze, Logan Raposo, Brian McDonald (Finest Kind), and Steve Triebes (Boardwalk Empire).
Proteus Entertainment, the company overseeing the production, is a partnership between Merz’s North Providence, RI-based Ten 21 Studios and Scarlatelli’s Barrington, RI-based Extra Solar Rock Productions. LAWSON is the first of many projects planned for filming in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to bring LAWSON to the big screen,” says Merz. “And being able to take full advantage of everything New England has to offer in terms of cast, crew, locations, and atmosphere – really makes this project something special. I can’t wait to introduce a whole new audience to the world of LAWSON.”

Merz, who previously served in the United States Air Force and worked for the US Government, is a Boston Latin School alum who grew up in Jamaica Plain before moving to Medfield.
For Raynham, MA-native Dan Scarlatelli, the chance to co-write and direct with Merz was an opportunity a long time in the making. “We’ve been talking for years about making this project a reality. But the timing never worked out until I moved back here from the west coast. Once we got going in late 2022, we never looked back. I’m really excited about the projects we have lined up for future production here in New England. We love filming here.”
LAWSON will premiere in 2024.
