Just like Johnny Strong here in the west, Japanese action stalwart Tak Sakaguchi favors quality over quantity when it comes to doing hyper-kinetic and hyper-violent action fests. Tak even retired at one point only to pull a Brett Favre and return to the gods of action cinema with fans being the ultimate winners for his return.
After headlining the ambitious continuous take Samurai flick Crazy Samurai Musashi, Tak relegated himself to supporting roles for a few years appearing in such cult hits as Prisoners of the Ghostland with Nicolas Cage and last year’s Bad City which was one of the best action films of 2023. Tak is essentially like a ninja. Add him into any movie and it automatically elevates it to another level of adrenaline.
Now Tak is back where he belongs and that’s headlining a fever pitched CQB fight flick and this time the movie is called One-Percenter where the synopsis sees Tak experiencing a conundrum when life starts to imitate art with bloody results. The movie reunites him with director Yudai Yamaguchi who is no stranger to working with the action star on other films including Re:Born which is also a master class of how to do onscreen fight choreography right.
After hitting the festival circuit last year, One-Percenter is readying for an international Blu-Ray release this March courtesy of Third Window Films which is a British distribution company. Check out the official box cover art, special features Intel and trainer for Tao’s resurgence in action cinema!

Action film actor Takuma Toshiro (Tak) is a man with only one goal: the perfection of action film acting. But when his samurai-approach to the profession clashes with an industry addicted to wires, CGI and quick edits, Toshiro and his trusty apprentice Akira decide to make their dream film themselves.
When actual violence finds its way onto their film set in the form of yakuza mobsters looking for a hidden cache of drugs, Toshiro and Akira are suddenly thrust into action. Is this the ideal opportunity to take his “Real Action” to the next level? As lives are lost and chaos ensues, Toshiro finds that the gap between action “fantasy” and “reality” isn’t quite what he thought!
The Blu-Ray release comes loaded with some pretty rad features including:
- Audio Commentary by Arne Venema and Mike Leeder
- Making Of
- Trailers
- Reversible Sleeves
Tak is one of the most astonishing talents in action out there having demonstrated the Zero Range Combat System which is a bad ass form of CQB skills and emphasizes military precision and ferocity to take out one’s opponent with extreme prejudice. The system combines different fighting disciplines like Sambo, Silat, Systema, and Muay Thai and was founded by Yoshitaka Inagawa.
The release is set for March 11th. By all means, partake in Tak getting down to business in the trailer as he manhandles numerous opponents with his extreme and precise skills.
