We virtually know next to nothing about Guy Ritchie’s next action film but we do know that it has some serious star firepower in Henry Cavill, Eiza González, and Jake Gyllenhaal. We now also know via Deadline that Lionsgate has officially acquired the thriller for distribution in the U.S.
The report also states that the untitled action spec which is currently wrapping up principal photography in Spain this week and it will invoke Expendables style elements with Carlos Bardem (Assasin’s Creed, The Lord of the Skies, Echo 3) and Fisher Stevens (Short Circuit, Hackers, Asteroid City) rounding out the current cast with more to be named later leading me to believe that with Expendables being mentioned it’s going to be a tactical actioner with more stars in the genre to be named at a later date.
All three big stars have already worked with Ritchie on the past as Gyllenhaal stared in Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant and Henry Cavill (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and Eiza González (Baby Driver), both of whom star in Ritchie’s upcoming The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Ritchie is really becoming quite the action helmer having directed the aforementioned The Covenant as well as Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune with Jason Statham. Even though they are action related, they are loaded with gravitas and heavy drama , except Operation Fortune which was hilarious, so it’s a packaged deal.
