We are exactly 11 days away from the release of the fourth Expendables film affectionately called Expend4bles. To say this has been a long road would be a vast understatement as we weren’t even sure that we were going to get a fourth entry after the third movie tanked at the box office all the way back in 2014. That’s almost a decade between number 3 and number 4 if you’re keeping score at home, but after on again, off again promises from Stallone, we are finally getting the latest entry and it’s a return to violent form as it will be a glorious hard R rated affair as seen in the red band trailer below.
I never get sick of watching that teaser and a lot of fans ate crow the day when it hit as the makers of the franchise heard us loud and clear after the debacle that was PG-13. But what next for the franchise? Where will it go from here and what if the stars who aren’t getting any younger?

Well franchise producers Kevin King-Templeton and Les Weldon shedded some light on those popular questions in a recent interview with Daily Express.
“Nothing is off the table,” King-Templeton stated in the interview. “We don’t know. It’s all about the fans.”
So basically he’s saying what will happen is up to how this fourth flick is received and how the fans gravitate towards it. Both producers did mention that Expendables movies will continue “as long as there’s an appetite for it.” I know that’s an abstract answer but money talks and BS…well, you know what.
There is also the fact that the stars of the movie are aging and Father Time can be cruel and unusual. It does bode well that this A list of action stars are in better shape than men half their age but the producers did mention that action set pieces and stunts were “definitely modified” as a direct effect to the cast and their ages. Make no mistake though, these guys are still as bad ass as they come.
“You have to change a little because the cast is getting older,” King-Templeton mentioned. “We evolved a little bit. We used the Jackie Chan stunt team so there’s definitely a lot of that Asian martial arts influence.”

I love that fact that this installment is going with an Asian action cinema flair but that’s not surprising seeing as international action stars Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais feature prominently in the movie.
“They are these action guys who stay pretty fit. They’re all in much better shape than I am even if they’re older than I am! I think it’s just that’s who they are. They don’t just let themselves go so when a movie like this comes up they’re ready. A lot of them do their own stunts and their own fighting,” weighed in Weldon.
Anyway you se it, this fourth movie looks to bring the franchise back into fighting shape and with Stallone saying goodbye, his right arm man and comrade played by Jason Statham looks to lead the future. Only time will tell however.
One thing is definitely for sure and that’s a fourth Expendables movie is ready to blow things up and fans are chomping at the bit to witness the greatness.
