We haven’t seen any footage from Expendables 4 yet but director Scott Waugh must’ve done something right as he has been tapped to direct a new action film called Breakout. What makes this film special is that this will mark action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to action movies after a four year layoff.
Per Deadline, the movie will be sold at Cannes via sales firm Anton.
Expendables 4 filmmaker Scott Waugh is aboard to direct the feature, which will see Arnie take on the lead role of Terry Reynolds. When his stepson, Daniel, is framed and sentenced to 25 years in a foreign country, Reynolds makes a daring jailbreak to save him and must overcome an overzealous prison warden in a race against time to avoid capture and flee the country.
On a side note, there is another prison flick titled Breakout from director Brandon Slagle which stars Louis Mandylor. The film just hit Digital and VOD a few weeks back. That film also sees Mandylor helping his imprisoned son when he is incarcerated as well. My how Hollywood is full of original ideas these days.
I’m sure Schwarzenegger has plenty in the tank but it would be nice to see him revisit some of his past iconic roles for a sequel like John Matrix in Commando. Arnie has teased a third Conan film for years but sadly nothing ever materialized for fever fans to enjoy.
