Well, we finally know who Frank Grillo will be playing in James Gunn’s DCU animated series Creature Commandos and the action star will be voicing the role of Rick Flagg, Sr. Unfortunately, I was hoping that he Doyle be involved in a live action project but it’ll cool to hear his voice regardless as it is distinctive.
The seven-episode show focused on the creation of a black ops team out of prisoners (a precursor to the Suicide Squad in DC mythology) was part of the initial 10 film and TV projects revealed in January by new DC Studios co-chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Those projects are interconnected in the DCU in the Chapter 1 phase “Gods and Monsters.” Per Deadline

The cast for Creature Commandos include an all-star ensemble and Sean Gunn will voice Weasel, Grillo is Rick Flag Sr., Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma is The Bride, Zoe Chao is Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk is Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour is Eric Frankenstein and Steve Agee is John Economos.
James Gunn was able to announce the castings via his Twitter and specifically stated that Grillo was playing Flag “across all media,” and this goes with the plan by Gunn and Safran to have noteworthy actors play DC characters in both animated and live-action projects in the highly ambitious DCU.
In the comics The Creature Commandos are a fictional DC Comics team of military superhumans originally set in World War II. The original team was introduced in Weird War Tales #93, created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick. Per Wikipedia.
