It’s been a long time coming but North American fans are finally going to be able to see the Louis Koo led Sci-Fi actioner Warriors of Future! Netflix has acquired the film as they look to bolster their Chinese filmography for the streaming service. The film has seen its share of delays throughout its conception but finally hit theaters overseas this past summer.

The Hong Kong-China co-production tells the story of a meteorite crashing down on a barren future Earth ravaged by pollution and global warming, bringing with it a fast-growing alien vine that purifies the planet but kills everything in its path. Armed with the plant’s genetic map, the heavily armored military of an unnamed city tries but fails to destroy it and uncovers a conspiracy. Per THR.

COVID was a big reason for the film’s delay along with a lengthy post production process to work on the movie’s numerous and intricate special effects. It’s worth it though as the pic was a rousing success in China and is considered “the most visual effects-heavy Hong Kong film to date, with a future Hong Kong rendered entirely in CGI”.
Ng Yuen-Fai, a filmmaker who is best known for his special effects work on numerous films including Bodyguards and Assassins and The White Storm directs. Lau Ching Wan (The Bullet Vanishes), and Philip Leung (Shock Wave 2) also stars.
Warriors of Future hits Netflix on December 2nd!
