It’s been many a year since Hong Kong action filmmaking auteur John Woo has made a film in the west but the drought is nearly over. Woo is back in North America with the very ambitious action/revenge pic Silent Night which stars Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) as a father on a mission of vengeance when his son is tragically killed in a gang crossfire.
Now what makes this film ambitious? Oh yeah, there’s not a word of dialogue spoken. None. Hence the name and also due to the fact that it takes place on Christmas Eve.
We have our first look image of Kinnaman in a car as he’s locked and loaded for some serious retribution. Take a look at Kinnaman below!

Official Synopsis: In Silent Night, Joel Kinnaman plays Godlock who is a father on a mission to avenge his young son who was tragically caught in the crossfire of gang violence on Christmas Eve. Shot and nearly killed while in pursuit of the murderers, Godlock vows to avenge his son by any means necessary.
Silent Night just finished with principal photography in Mexico City, via Variety, and Kinnaman stars along with Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres, and Cataline Sandino Moreno. Capstone Global is now in the process of selling the action-thriller to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Market.
I’ve been a massive fan of Woo’s since the late 80’s with his iconic Hong Kong output and even liked all his western films. Yes I enjoyed Paycheck as well. Sue me. I’m immensely excited to see Woo return on this side of the pond and this film is a definite must see for his trademark, balletic action set pieces and I’m curious to see how it comes off with no spoken words at all.
Keep it locked and loaded right here for more 411 on Silent Night as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
