Breaking: Screen Media Acquires International Rights to Filmmaker Liam O’Donnell’s Upcoming Sci-Fi Actioner SKYLINE: RADIAL!

By: John M Jerva

The last installment of filmmaker Liam O’Donnell’s Skylines franchise ended with our fearless female protagonist Rose Corely setting a course to invade the aliens’ home world in a desperate attempt to rescue her father played by Frank Grillo in the second entry Beyond Skyline. Fans of the successful sci-fi franchise have been itching to acquire any news on a potential fourth film to which O’Donnell has teased in the past and it looks like all systems are a go as Deadline is reporting that Screen Media has officially acquired international rights to the fourth flick which is titled Skyline: Radial. The company’s Foresight Unlimited banner will bring the movie to Cannes for to shop to potential buyers.

The title, which is the fourth installment of the franchise, sees Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline) direct from his own script. Story centers on the franchises main character Rose Corley. When she and her crew embark on a daring mission to rescue her father, Mark, from a secret prison, they are confronted with the ultimate power of the universe: an ancient alien race known only as The Radial.

Casting is well underway, and it has been noted in the past that Grillo is all good with returning as mark for another adventure so here’s hoping that he will indeed board this latest endeavor. O’Donnell also teases that this latest entry will be on par with the fast and Furious saga as well as the Avengers where they will bring in characters from all the previous films for one major action drenched spectacle. Lyndsey Morgan portrayed the grown up version of Rose Corley in the finale of the second film as well as the third.

“I could not be more excited to be working with Screen Media to build out our franchise and deliver what our fans have been asking for,” said O’Donnell. “As crazy as it sounds, we see this as our own niche version of a Fast Five/Avengers type of sequel where we are bringing together the characters from previous installments into a bigger, crowd-pleasing sci-fi martial arts adventure.”

Notice, O’Donnell mentions a “martial arts adventure.” We all know that Iko Uwais was a fixture in the second film along with Yayan Ruhian so one can hope that they are included once more for this epic installment. Ruhian did make an appearance in the third movie even though it looked like his character was 86’d in the second flick.

The Skylines franchise has been one of my favorite sci-fi films as of late and you can hear my thoughts on the Beyond Skyline and Skylines film as I have written reviews for both of them. They are a perfect example of how smaller independent films can have the polished sheen of a major summertime blockbuster and O’Donnell is without a doubt one of the genre’s premiere filmmakers. The Skyline films are the perfect mash up of genres which include science fiction, drama, action and martial arts and are genuine crowd pleasers for fans of genre cinema.

Casting is ongoing and production is said to commence later this year. Keep it locked and loaded right here for more to follow on Skyline: Radial as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
